If you increased your fiber intake and didn't change your caloric intake or activity level, could that cause weight loss? Even a little bit?

It would make sense. If you can choke down a glass of metamucil it'll fill you up and you'll eat less, plus it'll help clean out your system. I lost some weight unintentionally when I started using fibre supplements to manage my IBD.

Well I always thought fiber was for .. irregularity. And I figure, if it makes you go all the time, it would have to make you lose weight. But in my head, I always have theories that don't pan out...
You need fiber in your diet no matter what. And don't increase your intake too quickly. It will shock your body and make lots of poops happen. I don't know about the weight-loss thing, but it does improve digestive efficiency, so it might make a little sense temporarily.

i dunno. but it's probably better for you if the fiber comes from food rather than supplements.
i've had nothing but problems with fiber supplements.
also, when upping fiber, make sure to up your water intake too. very important!
there is this diet, called Fiber35. it recommends eating 35 grams of calories per day.
According to them, you will lose weight if you do not do anythign diffrent but increase your fiber intake because yea, pooping out more calories. here's what it says:
2) Fiber Eliminates Calories From The Food You Eat
You read that right. Studies have shown that for every gram of fiber you eat, you eliminate 7 calories from what you have already consumed. With 35 grams of fiber per day, you eliminate 245 calories. The technical term for this is fecal energy excretion; the Fiber35 Diet calls it the Fiber Fat Flush. The bottom line is that a high fiber diet not only curbs appetite, it trims calories from what you have already eaten.

Well I accidentally happened upon some anorexia/bulimia support site (as in, supporting the illness, not treatment). There were articles about how eating something like celery will give you 'negative calories' because the fiber causes your body to burn more calories just to digest it than calories consuming it would give you. And that all food with high fiber has a similar effect if it's low-calorie... idk if there is scientific evidence of that, but it piques (sp.?) my interest.
It really depends it will not change you body composition but the increased excertion of liquids if not properly replaced by hydration will lead to a net weight loss.

Fiber foods help to burn the extra calories. Add more fiber foods in your routine diet to get help in fat burning and weight reduction. Fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber, so take more fruits and vegetables in daily diet to lose your unnecessary body weight.
