I can't get this fucking bitch to call me back. She needs to give me a decent haircut for free, and she needs to dye the fucking extensions for free too. I'll buy the extensions tomorrow and start stalking her until she can make me at least somewhat presentable. I may not look sexy or womanly anymore but she needs to work as much damage control as she can.

It took me FOUR FUCKING YEARS to grow that out from the last shitty short haircut I had, and it looked horrible while it was still growing out. I feel like my femininity is completely gone. The ONE thing I prided myself on was my long, thick, full hair; it felt sexy when it brushed against my back, and I felt so womanly when it moved around my shoulders. And now it's gone and I just look like a fat pasty dyke.

I'm completely and totally heartbroken. Maybe it's stupid, but I can't help it. The ONE thing I loved about my appearance is gone and nothing can bring it back. In another four years I'll be turning 33. I just don't understand why she did this to me, no one on earth would ever think this cut looks good. I have to go to work but I can't get up and leave right now. I'm sobbing as I type and I keep throwing up. I can cut it some more so I don't have a mullet, but I hate having short hair and I feel so ugly and unfeminine.

I can't afford a thousand dollars for extensions. I drove all the way to Clackamas to look for clip extensions at Sally Beauty, but they didn't have anything that remotely matched my color, so I'm stuck. I don't know how I'm supposed to get up and go to work and expect people to find me attractive.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh honey I have been there and I am so sorry. You can take the extensions to the colorist and ask them to match it. Tell her how upset you are with the cut and maybe shell do it for free. This is the exact reason why I want to be a cosmetologist-- some ppl dont understand how fucking with your hair is like fucking with your emotions.

She better call you back!! She should definitely color match the extensions for free. If you can't find the extensions you want at sally's there's also ebay:

but those would probably take a little longer to get to you, and i know you want long hair right away.

Yes. It will be okay darling. We've all had a shitty haircut that grew out before we knew it. Don't worry.

I have human hair clip in extensions that I got from Wigland on Broadway. I love them. I really recommend the human hair so you can style them. They aren't that much money and then call the salon and ask them to trim them and dye them to blend perfectly in with your hair, they should do it all free of charge, ask to speak with the manager or owner.

You did have gorgeous hair, but try to embrace the shorter hair as much as you can.

And he extensions will look amazing in the club especially!! Big red hair! It'll look great.

I seriously need to pull on my big girl pants, fix myself an updo, and go to work. But I don't know how to do an updo with such thin wisps. When I had hair I used to do a French twist sometimes, but that's not working here, and since I never put my hair up (der, I love it long and flowing), I don't know what to do with it now. Every time I go to fix it up, I burst into tears again. I don't know how to make anything pretty out of a mullet, I just don't.

Thank you. I explained to K that it would be like someone cutting off his penis and saying, "It's okay, we'll reattach a little at a time for the next few years and in about three or four years you'll have all your penis back. Don't worry, you're still attractive without a penis." Doesn't matter, he would still feel completely emasculated and it would be difficult to get over it.

That's how it is with me. I know logically that women with short hair are still pretty and I agree it looks good on some women. But it's not SEXY or FEMININE to me. I feel like the thing that made me womanly has been hacked away. And all those years I spent growing it - I just thought back and I started growing it out from the last short haircut (which did NOT look good) around this time of year in 2003. Five years. Five long years, the first two in which I felt atrociously ugly, especially in that in-between stage. And now here I am right back there again.

I'm pulling up my big girl pants and going to work, and I'm hoping the girl who did my updo last night will do it again tonight. Then I've got tomorrow and Monday to deal with the decent cut and extensions issue before my auditions on Monday night. My reward for sucking it up and going in tonight, is a makeover and a makeup splurge at MAC to complement my fantastic new red hair color. So here I go. I hope I don't humiliate myself.

Your color does look fucking amazing!!! It makes your eyes really blue and your skin look so creamy!!!

I'm sorry about your cut... that just sucks. I know you're really upset, but I think you're just so damn lovely that no haircut could look bad on you! Hope that jackass calls you back, although I'm a little nervous about her cutting you again. If she keeps avoiding you, call the salon and ask to speak to the manager or owner.

When you buy your hair, you should get yourself a phony pony too. That way you have some options, and when you don't feel like dealing with the extensions or you don't have as much time, you can tie a pony tail on pretty quick.

Oh, and of course, good luck tonight! Maybe a cute barrette or headband or something would make you feel prettier? Maybe go all out on your makeup and wear sparkly big earrings or something to put attention on your face.

I'm so sorry about the stupid cut though.

I did have the same EXACT thing happen to me when I was like 16. I had long thick healthy hair and then got it hacked off into this super short lesbian (no offense) haircut, with these wispie pieces in the back that were like five inches longer than the rest of my hair. I literally wore a paper bag on my head to my friends house and cried for a day.

I finally trimmed it up so it was a little better and the only good thing about it, was that I could take advantage of growing it out to try out new haircuts that were shorter than I usually had.

But fuck, how expensive and high-maintenance when what I had was so full and thick! I just needed a fucking trim and some bangs!

I still don't understand why on earth you would thin someone's hair on purpose. Are there really people out there thinking, "Hm, my hair is too thick and full, I'd rather have it all wispy like an old bald man's"? Is the geriatric look getting trendy now?

My aunt gets her hair thinned because she really has wayyy too much hair. She keeps it shoulder length with layers, so they thin it out so it doesnt puff out. Dont get me wrong, its still THICK, but not as thick as it normally is. If she doesnt thin it out, it looks really bad.

But I love your color. It is really beautiful.

Im sorry about the cut though. I hate when stylists dont fucking listen. I hope you get her to fix it!!!

Thanks, y'all. I couldn't figure out the updo, so tonight at work I kept my glasses on and put the mullet into pigtails. I looked like the girl on the Wendy's Hamburgers sign and after I mentioned that the bouncer called me Wendy all night.

I did okay, moneywise, nowhere near what I wanted. But it was slow and I was tired and I was NOT feeling sexy. So I feel okay if not happy.

I'm going to get the "length" cut off the mullet and try for a cute Drew Barrymore type short haircut with a lot of texture and wave. Typing that makes me upset again but it's got to be better than the mullet. That extremely short layer on top worries me but hopefully something can be done. And I'm getting clip extensions and a 3/4 wig for work, and I'm going to have this butcher dye it to match. I think that's the best we can do here.

I just hope I don't throttle her. She's a great person, she's really cool and I liked her, and she did an amazing job on the color. I'm just so hearbroken and furious at the hack job.

u could always get those clip on hair extentions if actual extentions is too expensive, and if it just for work. i know a couple of girls that wore them just for work, really easy to put on and take out.

i love the color btw, that's a hard color to dye, she's a good colorist. did u ask her to cut that much, or did she just go for it?

I definitely did not ask for a mullet. I told her I was still growing it out and I liked the long, flowy, feminine effect, and I told her I wanted to bring my existing layers closer together so it would be more of the same length when it grew out. She told me she was going to cut short layers on top for volume, and I didn't want to do that but she talked me into it and said I should trust her. Even that would look okay though if she hadn't thinned it into wisps in the back. I don't know what I said to make her think I would like a mullet, but I definitely did NOT ask for thin geriatric wisps and a mullet.

If just wanted a shape up and your goal was to go all one length and keep length did you verify that with her up front? It shouldn't have took her long at all just to shape up what you have. Did you notice she was cutting too much off? If you wanted it to be more flowy then shaping up your orginal lines probably wouldn't give that affect. Layers along with some sort of texturizing will give a more flowy affect.

Next time I would recommend going to another stylist bringing a picture and telling her/him exactly what you want. Have them verify what you said you wanted. Don't let them do what they want to your hair until trust is established. But you have to tell them exactly what you want. For instance," I want to keep my length, I am trying to grow my hair out". "I want it be all one length". If you told me that I would just shape-up or dust off the ends of your existing layers and perimeter.

A lot of women do have full, thick hair and hate it. I see it every single day, in fact, that's about all I see, lol. I have seen women with enough hair for 8 people.

But I noticed before Yek that your hair is wavy/curly? Am I right? If so she should have been more careful with the texturizing. I won't texturize curly hair at all yet. In fact, I'll blowdry it straight then ask for my instructor to come over. I might point cut it but I won't use thinning shears at all on curly hair. Sounds like she got texturizing happy. There are certain ways to texurize hair to create an illusion of thicker hair but if you aren't careful you leave someone too thin.

Again, I understand putting in layers for a flowy effect. I would have either shaped up your existing layers or put in a few layers around the perimeter for a more flowy effect. Also some face framing a swoop bang would have added a nice affect to it. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Maybe just bring a picture next time.

Yek, isn't it so frustrating when you suspect something is going severely awry in the stylist's chair, yet you feel paralyzed to say or do anything about it? It's like one of those nightmares sinking into quicksand or trying to get away from a bad guy in slo-mo.

BUT. Though I understand why you don't like it, you're still every bit as beautiful. No bullshit. I'm especially pleased that the color turned out so marvelously! Your upcoming solution with the stylist sounds perfect. She'd better be very remorseful.

I have one other suggestion on what to do in the club. Your quick save with the pigtails was smart, and I bet you looked very sassy that way. And I'm sure the extensions will be good.

Have you ever tried a fake ponytail, though? I tried one on a whim one night & ended up wearing it (and replacements & different versions) ever since. I really loved the effect. It'll change your look somewhat, but it might be something to try for the variety of it. They make really good ones these days, and I do a pretty vigorous head-tossing show. If you use the elastic drawstring well & a good amount of sturdy bobby pins, it's very solid. Also, if the color doesn't match exactly, under club lighting it won't matter as long as it's pretty close.

Give it a try! It still gives the illusion of long, thick, feminine hair, at very little cost.

Ha ha, great analogy! That's exactly what it's like.

I've spent the morning collecting sexy pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor with short, tousled hair. I'm gonna take those in and try to see if I can duplicate that look. I just want to look feminine again, PLEASE!!

I purchased extensions at a beauty show where you use a small tool to to tighten the extension on your real hair. I bought the whole packet for $50. and then got the human hair $150.00. The hair itself is expensive, but you don't have to "fuse" the extension w/ glue- where you can't reuse the hair. With these you just move up the regrowth and re-tighten. It is an inital investment, but you can gently rewash the hair. It is called Design Lengths. I looked on line and they should be coming to e-bay soon or maybe look around a bit for them. In the meantime, wear a fall or ponytail. I had my hair cut short, and it is taking forever to grow.

So yesterday I went to a different stylist for a better cut. I lost a lot of length, but not as much as I thought I would, and she cut it in such a way that it would grow out evenly without an awkward in-between stage. It's cute - not sexy in my opinion, but cute. I think it'll look great pincurled and I'm going to try that soon.

Today I spent $35 on a 3/4 synthetic wig; it's almost waist-length with full, bouncy curls just like I wanted, my exact shade of red with blond highlights just like the blond highlights I already have. The guy at the wig shop couldn't believe how lucky we got with that, it's an EXACT match. So I have that for work and dressup, and cute short hair for every day, and the short hair will grow out. The haircut only cost $25 too (of course, I gave her a $15 tip because she was a total fucking lifesaver and she was so nice).

All will be well. I think this will grow out cute and be long again in a year or so, and in the meantime I have my wig. Whew. It was a crisis weekend but I will survive!

Eeeeexactly. I have a phony pony (heehee this is the first time I'd read that phrase before) and it is a LIFESAVER since my hair is practically growing backwards, it's so slow. Right now my hair is just to my jaw, not even touching my shoulders yet, and it's very frustrating. The phony pony is amazing, it looks great in the club and I feel so much more confident with it. Have made nothing but good money and received nothing but compliments. There are so many fix-its for bad hair these days, I know you'll find something (or two or three somethings!) to complement your look, Yek.

ETA: We cross-posted. YAY for the good re-trim! I knew it'd work out!

The color is beautiful. I love it. And your eyes - amazing

The cut - some moron did that to my friend too... I was so pissed. Now I have to keep trimming it as it grows out. Some people have no clue how to cut hair.

    Im sorry babe.

The color is beautiful. Looks great, I'm sorry the cut wasn't what you wanted. i hate when that happens.

One time, to save money, I went to a Great Clips instead of my normal salon, and I asked for long layers all over (not just the face-framing kind) and I literally watched as she took my entire top layer of hair and basically cut 1/2 of it off in one swoop....and that was her idea of layers.

I ended up crying when I got in my car, the style was like something out of the 80's and I called my salon and begged them to get me in after they had already closed. They fixed it kinda, and made it more flowy, and they had to take several inches off the rest of my hair to make it look decent, It was horrible. I've never gone anywhere else to save a penny. I'm too scared.
