Default Yay I started working out again!

So lately I've been conscious of my ever-growing belly and thighs. I decided that I need to stop slacking and actually put aside some time to spend at the gym, since after all I have a paid-in-full gym membership until September. I went yesterday(it had been quite a few months) and it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Part of the reason it was so much fun was because I took my friend M--k with me, and he was the perfect coach/aide. (M--k has been weight lifting and working out for over 10yrs now, and he is athletic...he also plays various sports, so he knew more about proper weight training than I did) He gave me some advice when working on the weight machines and he helped to make sure that I was using the right technique and the right posture/positioning on the machines.

The one thing I realized though is that my LUNGS hurt the most when I was doing laps in the pool. I was completely out of breath very quickly. My lungs and breathing couldn't keep up with the rest of me. Perhaps I should cut back on all of the cigarette smoking.

Hopefully I can keep myself motivated to work out a solid 3 days/week. I need to get myself back in shape before bathing suit season!

I'm hoping to flatten out my stomach and get rid of the excess fat on my hips and back of thighs. But I don't want to lose any weight from my boobs LOL! Anyone else been working out lately? Anyone get good results?

Yeah, been working out hard for about 2-3 months now and am toning up like nobody's business. Abs, thighs, calves, arms and butt are all looking the nicest they have in a very long time, if not ever. A combination of resistance, hard cardio and straight out consistency (and frequency!) has worked wonders for me.

Before that I spent six months doing long walks and short runs just about every day, and the results I saw were nowhere near anything like the ones I get with near-daily long-distance running (20-90 mins most days, average 40-60 mins, alternating between jogging and running) and a few hours a week of gym time (three to four one-hour boxing and resistance classes, with lots of focus on toning up the abs and butt). My whole body composition looks to have changed, though my weight is not that much lower.

I am also much stronger and more energetic. I laugh at people who threaten me physically now (hehe, don't these sedentary shits know I'm an amateur boxer these days, and failing a bop on the nose, that I can run like hell for two hours if I have to?), whereas I used to cringe. The endorphin factor has meant that my default mood (when no immediate stressors are present) is mostly a cheerful or calm one, and my work outs have the added bonus of easing the tension in my life. Running is a healthy way for me to deal with any negativity that comes up for me. I don't have to hurt myself or anyone else to relieve it- instead, I'm actually benefiting my cardiovascular and bone health while working through my anger, and that feels wonderful.

I see exactly where you are coming from flickad. I'm currently just doing long walks and shorter runs since I moved away from my gym about three months ago and my body composition has changed although my clothes still fit. (It's just that naked I don't look as 'tight and tant' )
I'm really trying to tone up a bit now and it will help that I'm getting my gym membership back next week and I'm taking tonalin CLA which I hope helps. I'm really trying to get my tone back by the end of March. So from next week Spin classes here I come!!
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

I've just gotten back into working out.

A year ago, I was 132...with a lot of muscle tone, completely flat abs, no jiggle, etc.

For a variety of reasons, including getting a new bf which resulted in eating out a lot and laying in bed for days, I stepped on a scale one day and was shocked to find I weighed 152

I thought maybe the scale was broken, so I busted out my favorite size 4 jeans...I couldn't even get them up my thighs.

I've put some halfhearted efforts in, but always went back to bad habits...then I realzied bathing suit season is coming (we go to the Jersey shore every summer) and I DO NOT want to spend another day on the beach in coverups.

I cut out regular soda, cut way back on drinking, generally have added more healthy foods, like more veggies and whole wheat instead of white, cut back on sweets.

I workout about 4 or 5 days a week, for about 45-60 minutes of cardio (I alternate using my elliptical and my bike, as the weather gets better I'll add in walks and runs) and some weight training 2 or 3 days a week.

So far, I have lost 8 pounds, and am down to 144.

My progress has been really slow (about a pound, but at least its progress!) so I'm stepping it up, adding Tonalin, and instead of just steady cardio, interval training and higher weights in my resistance.

I would looooove to swim for excercise

but a bitch can't swim... i can float like a mother fucker though

swimming , I'll be floatin alright....face down at the bottom..don't play.

I stick to my hour on the elliptical 4 times and kickboxin 3 times a week
this gives me enough resistance to get muscle tone....

I'm just getting back to working out after my Superbowl trip. It always feels so good once you finally get motivated to do it again lol. I think I'll be joining a gym closer to summer time too.
