    Default Veggies Living with Omnivores

So I've made the jump to be vegetarian again! I'm all excited and plan to resume when I get back to my apartment (at my father's house right now.) I have it pretty well planned out, with one exception.

I live with Boyfriend, who I lovingly call El Carnivoro (Love my Spanish), and he has no desire to go veg. I'm fine with that, and would never push veggie-ism on him. I do most of the cooking, and he's cool with some meatless dishes (He loves Gardenburgers, bless his heart), but after that, I am not sure how to go about this. I imagine it's going to take some teamwork in the beginning, but hopefully it will snowball and just become habit.

And veggies here live with omnivorous SO's? How do you do it?

I usually make things like pasta, stirfry, burritos, etc., that can be made with or without meat, and just cook the meat separately. Then he can just add it to his portion.

I only eat fish, and I live with a meat-eating girl and also my boyfriend practically lives here. The easiest thing to do is to cook the meat by itself and add it later to his food. You can also each eat all the same sides but have a separate protein. For example, say you both eat a baked potato and a salad but he has a chicken breast and you have tofu.

I don't cook any meat and we don't have meat in the house. We both cook, he usually cooks pasta type dishes using the Morning Star burger crumbles. When we go out to eat he orders meat.

Met a vegan last night who lives like 10 minutes from my house. Now I've had meals with vegetarians before but never a vegan. I pointed out I didn't know of any vegan places, and I think I may have offended her. Or maybe not.

I cook meals that we both like; K doesn't need meat in every single meal. When we go out, he orders meat if he wants it, and if we're both just heating something up then he can heat up a frozen beef burrito or whatever. It's not really an issue.

I cook meals that are mostly veggie. Most nights...if there is meat involved he cooks his own(unless its something easy) since I am not very good at cooking flesh. So I eat whatever I cooked, and he just adds his meat to it.

No comment to add other then to say, I appreciate your calling people who also eat meat “omnivores” vs. the typical “meat eaters” title is if all we ate was meat. Many vegetarians, or people recently gone vegetarian, often use terminology that’s demeaning and intended to be judgmental. You didn’t, and I appreciate that. As omnivores is what we be. I love my fruits and vegetables as much as the next person (and I eat much more of both than most Americans) but some times it’s just gotta be dead, red, and corn fed!

^^ Depending on who you ask, 'omni' is a dirty word. VeggieBoards uses the term like a slap in the face.

Some Hindu branches wont each garlic or onions b/c they make you 'fiery' and 'passionate' which is to be avoided in order to keep a calm mind free from desire.
