Default Bare Minerals- OH MY GOD

So I'm sure everyone has seen those Bare Minerals infomercials on TV, with all these women talking about how magical this stuff is.

I recently went off my birthcontrol and its made me break out very badly...almost like back in middle school. I don't normally wear foundation, but now that I need some coverage, I went back to my old liquid foundation. This stuff felt so nasty and gross on my face, so I decided to go to Sephora and try out a few different foundation options.

The sephora artist put B.M. on half of my completely clean face then let me see myself in the mirror. I was SHOCKED. I am normally not a quick sale (esp on makeup that I can buy at the drugstore for a fraction of the price) but when I looked in the mirror, I knew I was buying that shit. Literally, the stuff covered all of my blemishes and felt so smooth on my face that I wanted to touch it the whole way home.

Heres the clincher, and what made this all so worth it-

My idiot boyfriend, who didn't notice my VERY OBVIOUS highlights for almost a day, said "Wow, your skin cleared up quickly" right when I walked in the door from buying it. Literally, right when I walked in and kissed him hello.

I will now swear by this shit.

I loooove Bare Minerals. That and this MAC foundation are the only two I use. I prefer BM because it doesn't rub off easily either and a little goes a long way. Plus, I've slept in it without it causing skin problems or rubbing off on my sheets.

I think I am doing it wrong. It looks obvious with me...like I do have powder all over my face.

The way she showed me how to do it, you swirl it then tap so you only get whats up in the bristles of the brush. When you look at the brush, you shouldn't be able to see much of the powder actually on it, but what buffs onto your skin is whats hidden up in the bristles.

Which brush are you using? They have a couple of different brushes with bristles designed to do different things. The handy buki and kabuki are for heavier coverage. The flawless face is for light to medium coverage, and for fairly sheer use the soft focus face brush.

    damn, that sounds complicated
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I have tried bare minerals so many times. I even bought all of the brushes and had a MUA show me how to apply it. I guess it's just not for me. I don't likle it at all.

How does it make your pores larger? Do all mineral makeups do this?

I've been a Bare Minerals devotee for 5 or 6 years now. Fucken GREAT stuff.

If it's that obvious on your face you're using too much. It takes such a small amount, the stuff lasts forever. I think I had to rebuy every 4 months when I used it daily. Now that I only wear makeup occasionally, I haven't bought new in a year and I still have alot of product.

I love it! I wear that as well as Everyday Minerals, which is way cheaper but similar (IMO) for everyday. The look and feel is completely natural and flawless if applied right.

You can get it online from the website directly (www.bareminerals.com) or from Sephora.

    i LOVE bare minerals!!

my mom started ordering it off the tv and they sent it to her in ridiculously high volumes. it takes me like 10 months to use a whole jar of foundation and they were sending her new ones every month! i wouldn't recommend anyone doing this.

anyway she started giving it to me and it changed my life. i've never been the type to wear makeup because it irritates my skin (i was once in a terrible house fire that ruined the skin on my face). and i had terrible acne. bare minerals not only covered the acne but ACTUALLY MADE IT DISAPPEAR. whenever i have a breakout, i use it, and the breakout clears up extremely fast.

and the eyeshadows are to die for as well...

I can see it on my skin. I must be using to much. However...if I use to little then I get absolutly no coverage at all. I bought the whole line. concealer, foundation, mineral vail...it sucks. makes my skin feel very dry and mask like. but if I use to little then it doesn't cover at all and i have red blotchy skin with some acne.

I would love to use this stuff. Everyone has such a positive experience, I dont know why I can't

You can also buy the stuff at Ulta.

Kaylinn, have you ever had a pro apply it for you? Maybe go to Sephora and have a consultation.

I had a similar bad, cake-y experience with a Loreal mineral knockoff, so I was apprehensive that the real stuff would be any better for me.

I second going to have it put on you. That way you can learn the little "tricks" and see how it looks with a pro. The pro might even see what it does on your skin and can reccommend a product that will help you. I know the kits now come with something called "Skin Revver Upper" that has salicylic and glycolic (sp?) acid to smooth out imperfections before you apply the foundation.

I was looking through the catalog last night and saw these. They look SO good! I love the way the Azure one looks. I forgot what little name it has but its one of the sparkly ones.

When using mineral cosmetics, if you notice you have a problem with any of them, chances are that you are sensitive to bismuth. Several makers use bismuth in their mineral makeup, there are a few companies that dont. I'm sensitive to it, so I stick to the companies that don't use it.

Off the top of my head:

    Alima
    Everyday Minerals
    Lumiere
    Tenseinobi

I generally use products from Tenseinobi, but like so much of what I buy, its a smaller local company. (My mom is a small business owner too, so I'm very much about supporting the little guy as long as they have a good product).

Also, check the brushes you are using as well. If you have any kind of animal sensitivities (dog, cat allergies, etc...) the "natural" brushes can also break you out as they are typically made of goat hair. Go for a synthetic brush if you have any kind of animal allergies.

Also..... Bare Minerals Kabuki brush is KNOWN for breaking out people... dunno why.

Another thing, if you are a mineral makeup lover but you hate the brushes or feel that they are too rough or hard, you can wash them in the shower with you and put hair conditioner on them. Really softens them up.
