    Default Dog parks RANT

Dash and I enjoy going to the park every day. We go for a 2 mile walk around the park and then we like to play in the dog park. Every day it's another issue there. People with no control over their dogs, people with agressive dogs, people that litter. GRR.

    1. If yoru dog is agressive, it does not belong in the dog park. Don't make excuses. It'd your fault.
I had a pack of doxies attack my puppy yesterday. The owners excuse? My dogs only get along with each other. keep yoru dog away and he will be safe.

    2. If you can't control your dog, don't come to the park!

    3. Keep an eye on your dog. don't expect to just sit on the bench and talk on the phone while your dog raises hell.

4.Pick up after yourself!! Dog poop is not fun to step in. Pick up yoru litter! Don't litter in the dog park please. I have a puppy who eats everything, it's nto my job to go around and make sure the entire park is clean before I can let my dog loose. Ciggerette butts, cups, plastic bags, clean up after yourself!

    5. Dog parks are segregated for a reason. Small, medium and large. Don't bring yoru big ass put bull into the small dog area. I don't care if he is friendly and nice. a 100 lb dog against my 7 lb dog doesn't stand a chance. He may be nice, but he plays rough and can hurt my little dog unintentionally. And don't be an asshole when I ask you to leave. It's not fair to me to have to leave a place I belong because yoru an asshole. Please obey the park rules and take yoru big dog to the big dog area.

Thank you for listening to my rant. I am starting to HATE dog owners with a passion. They let their dogs run around liek maniacs and don't even try to control them or discipline them, they think it's cute or ok for their dog to show agression..one day they will have a huge ass lawsuit on their hands.

I don't know where I can take my puppy for fun off leash because so many people cannot obey the rules. We were having such a nice time doday in the park when 2 big ass pit bulls came into the small dog run. they refused to leave and sid it was ok, their dogs were nice.
yesterday Dash was nearly attacked by a pack of weiner dogs. Everyday it's something new. All we want is to be able to go for our walk and then have fun off his leash.

    grrrrr.

^^^ Is the dog park run by the town or an independent group? I'd write a letter of complaint and see what happens. If they do nothing, you could write in to the local papers.

Some owners are just bad people.....granted some dogs are protective/have some agresspn....my mini-schnauzer was 1ft 4 inches high, but, had "short person" syndrome.....but if she wasn' protecting us or her property she was mild mannered.....

i have had dogs chase after me, and the owners look at me as though I am the problem....and then refuse to do anything about it....

I'm glad Dash is ok, I don't think that pooch takes a bad picture

Oh man, I remember when my dogs would go to the dog run. My ex's boxer got attacked once and when he (the dog) fought back, the owner of the instigator got all snappy with my ex. I wanted to bitch slap her for having the balls to be nasty when it was HER dog who attacked mine.

I also hated when people didnt pick up their dog's shit. Dude, if I could pick up my Boxer's 3 foot shit, I expect others to do it too. No one likes to do it, but the fact is you need to play by the rules when you are in a dog park.

    I hate dog parks anymore!

I just took my Golden Molly on Saturday. She's a trained therapy dog, she has excellent manners. Part of the problem though when a dog has been through lots of training is it gets timid with other dogs.

She is a large dog, so of course she goes into the large run...but the other idiots there had NO control of their dogs.

This ass brings in this Boxer (of course not neutered) and lets him run loose, and of course the Boxer starts mounting and humping at Molly.

    The guy LAUGHS.

Molly was scared out of her mind and tried to just run away, but the Boxer wouldn't leave her be. Molly finally got fed up, and knocked the dog over (she never even snapped at him, she just shoved at him)...and the Boxer's owner got pissed at us.

What also pisses me off is the owners who have those damned retractable leashes, sit on a bench to use their cell, and then are shocked when a) their dog gets tangled in the midst of deaking with other dogs or b) when they have no control of their dog.

That sucks. I have an aggressive Great Dane(who is 9) and I would never take him to a dog park. He has never bitten anyone but I recognize his behavior as abnormal and that's enough to know to keep him away. I dont even walk him with my other dog b/c they can egg eachother on. By himself we do walks around the neighborhood and he's fine, but I wouldn't even test him around strange dogs. Your dog is so cute!

My 2 small boy dogs are good at the dog park for about an hour. I think they get bored then they start humping other boy dogs. That's when we gotta leave. One is neutered and the other not. The only problem I've ever had, besides my two homos, was a time when an old man brought dog treats. Guess he didn't know bones are serious business and there was a little squabble. He was real old and I think he thought he was doing a good thing, so I didn't get mad.

BAd old man. Bringing treats to a dog park. What was he thinking?!

So your dogs hump other dogs (which isn't usually a sexual thing, it's a dominance thing) and they get food aggressive.

They shouldn't be at a dog park. Ever.

What? You can't be serious. Sarcasm?
I know someone who owns a dog park. If you keep your dog in the designated size areas, humping isn't a problem, but extremely agressive behavior such as biting, attacking, etc is. Humping is not an agressive behavior. My dog is neutured and still humps dogs....which is why I have not taken him to a dog park - I'd be embarassed even though it is natural behavior for male dogs.

My dog doesn't get food agressive, just food attentive and he humps pretty much every other dog except small dogs (lol). He's humped pitbulls (He's half sharpei, half rottweiler, and he's not a huge dog), rottweilers, dalmations...he gets around.

    what a dog-whore! hahaha...

my 4 lb papillon humps everything in sight. its a dominance issue, i'm pretty sure. i would never take him to the dog park, i'd be worried he'd piss off the wrong owner/dog and come home dead.

Humping IS an aggressive behavior for a lot of dogs. Like someone else pointed out, its about dominance. My small female dog used to hump her large brother because she was dominant over him. It was most certainly aggressive. I wouldn't want my dog to be humped by some strange dog for this reason.

yeah..humping is a show of dominance.
Sometimes it can be done just in play or because of overexcitement, but it also can be a show of dominance.

And yeah, I agree with KK. Those dogs shouldn't be at a dog park. Dogs shouldn't show agression over food. Dogs shouldn't be allowed to show agression, period.

It's owners like that that piss me off. Ones who make excuses for their dogs behavior or blame others.

My mother always had and still has Chow Chows. They are very big, powerful dogs. her male showed food agression. I was babysitting my friends 3 year old who walked near the dog when he was eating...that baby got 4 stitches in his face when the dog bit him. Thank god nothig worse happened or we didn't get sued.
I also have a scar on my eye where the same dog bit me in the face because I was laying on the floor near him when he had a bone. I accidentially rolled to close to him and he bit me in the eye. Luckily I only have a scar and still have my eye. Aggression of any kind should never be tolerated. It's never ok.

My boys are good eggs. They love to play and pee and sniff butt. They are usually well behaved. Other dogs have tried humping them at the park as well. THEY ARE DOGS!!!! If it were a HUMAN child humping other HUMAN children, that's an issue. But your dogs will surprise with you sometimes with things they do in certain situations. I'm pretty sure that the neutered boy has done it from just getting excited. We've been to the park at least 50 times and he's only done this about 3 times. The other is a horn ball. He has a stuffed animal he works over and flea bites. He looooves this gross stuffed animal. But I know when he's starting to "fall in love" with another dog and we leave. They know me there, and everyone likes them. There is a list of rules before you enter. One of the rules is to not bring food. Yea, one will get aggresive when "special" treats are around. With his regular food though, he shares with the other dog and the cat will even eat with him. They aren't aggresive at all, I would never, ever, think of hurting someone else's dog. I know how I feel about mine. But you can't get upset over the humping. Dogs will be dogs. I couldn't take away the dog park from them for that reason. (wanted to mention they are small dogs. they are not the little terrorists I may have made them out to be)

^dogs will be dogs is an easy excuse.

Dogs bite, snarl, growl...thats being a dog. But it's not acceptable.

Dog's humping rarely is about them being sexual, unless there's a female in heat. The only dogs that do it? Are dogs that haven't been trained not too, and are trying to exert their dominance.

I have had every "aggressive" breed, pit bulls, akitas, rottweilers, mostly males, not one EVER humped at another dog. It is not acceptable behavior, and I train my dogs to know that.

If your dog has that habit, you need to train them, and quickly, not too. Because one day they're going to hump another dog who truly is dominant, and get their throat ripped out. I have seen it happen before, yup, at a dog park.

And it doesn't matter if it only gets aggressive about a "special treat". I dont care if it's most favorite thing is dangled over its face...it should NEVER be aggressive.

If you aren't willing to keep your dogs away from the park, then for god's sakes, TRAIN them. Invest in a few obedience classes and a good leash/training collar, for the dog's sakes and for the sakes of other owners.

They could probably use some basic obedience Kandie, I'll admit. But I don't think I take it seriously because they are small. They don't hump the others ALL the time. I wouldn't even know where to start with stopping that urge tho. I bust old boy's ass with papers over the treat thing, believe me. I found them wondering around my apts and took them in, maybe the one still has hunger issues? Funny you mention big dogs. I've always had big dogs. My first experience with the little guys. Never the humping or pissy treat attitude with my big boys. Very well behaved. There does seem to be more drama in the small dog area than the large where I go. From the weiner dog that won't let you sit at the table, all the humpers, too rough playing and one screaming cuz it's scared. (not just mine) But, like I said, everyone there see's each other quite a bit, so it's never a problem if us owners get it under control. It would be scarier if I had a big dog that could be in danger or was being "sexually harassed" since they can really hurt each other. And I agree with the PLEASE PICK UP THE POOP!

A friend of mine who works with dogs advised me not to go to dog parks, for several reasons. I remember one being that you don't know if someone else's dog has gotten all its shots yet.

Our puppy got bit in the bark park once, because of an overly possessive dog. Now he shows aggression towards other dogs

Same here... trainer was concerned about the dog flu that was running rampant here about a year ago. Years before that, Sophie was attacked by a boxer at a dog park and was never quite as easy going after that.

Dog parks stress out Sophie. If Hank gets to chasing and playing with another dog she barks at them. She pretty much avoids energetic/spastic dogs at play.

Hank usually tries to bully other big dogs, but the last time he played with a strange dog, he wasn't aggressive... until the dog wouldn't stop trying to mount him. I was actually surprised Hank let it go on for as long as he did, but after about 30 minutes, he started growling and snapping at the stranger. We seperated them before the situation escalated.

Sophie just barked at them the whole time.

The moral of the story: I don't think my kids will ever be able to go to the dog park.
