    Default Tattoo Ladies, a Question!

I want a tattoo like this, but a morning glory vine instead of roses. How much money would this cost (approximately), how long would it take, and how long would I be missing work while it healed? I effing love it and I've been wanting a morning glory vine tattoo, and this would be terrific!

Oh yeah, related question: If I were to get my other vine tattoo (kudzu trailing up my foot and around my ankle), how long would it be before I could wear shoes with ankle straps again?

it depends on who your artist is... I'm guessing 1000-1400? again, it depends. ummm... a week? week and a half? that way it could scab and heal a bit. You could always wear mules with a pretty ribbon as a strap- wouldn't hurt as much. I need to go look up 'morning glory'... I gotta say (just to be truthful, sorry) I feel like I've seen the vine/rose tattoo soooo many times before! Maybe with a different flower it might be better... any other ways you'd make it original? I just don't see YOU, of all people, having something that another stripper/girl would have...

Probably around two-three grand (AUD) and 4 full day (6 hour) session is my guess.

Morning glory looks like these pics:

Like my existing magnolia tattoo, and the kudzu and iris tattoos that I also want, it's a Southern plant that's very tough to eradicate; you can't hold it back from where it wants to go, and at the same time it appears very fragile and delicate. Morning glory is also at its best in the early morning (like me, LOL) and it symbolizes the transcience of life and youth. I'm nearing thirty and beginning the "put down roots and start thinking about the next generation" phase of my life, so the whole "you only live once so enjoy your youth while you can" philosophy is very much on my mind these days. And my family has really been trying to pull me back, so I love the statement in morning glory, which spreads far and wide and can't be contained.

So don't worry, it's not just another random flower tattoo!

Erm, not a tattoo lady but I'm guessing you'll accept my input too. I'd guess 1500 - 2000 at most places. Lys, are you saying it would take 24 hours total? I think that's high...

That's how long my full back is going to take and that's just black and white and my back. not colour up my legs to my neck.

I want kudzu twined around one ankle (I think, still not sure where to put the kudzu) and I want the morning glory as the big piece. I'd like to do something like the girl in the pic, but wrapped around the ankle and curving around the leg in a more vine-like manner rather than just going straight up with a bend to the back. Sort of growing in a natural way like vines do.

Gonna be awhile before I can afford to drop $2000 on a tat though. Bummer. The one I have cost $100 plus tip, but it's just a li'l magnolia flower on my wrist. Maybe I'll just get the iris I want on my other wrist for now and get the morning glory when I retire from stripping - though it would be a shame to get a tat like that and then not show it off. Maybe I'll get it for some other momentous occasion.

Lysondra, what full back piece are you getting?

The way I looked at it is that I've seen folks get more on their back than the back portion of that pic in a single session, and to me the back was way more than 1/4 the total ink there. But it sounds like you might have more ink than I do so you might know better. Also different artists work at very different speeds.

I was told by several people that we were supposed to tip. We wound up overtipping - K gave the guy $30 for taking such good care of me and I didn't know he'd done it, so after he bandaged it up I gave him another $10. He took it but he looked confused; later I found out K had already tipped, so oh well.

I think if I were spending $2000 I wouldn't really feel compelled to tip, but when they put tons of effort into a little first-time flower tattoo and treat me like one of their best customers, I feel that it deserves some recognition.

I always try, but my current artist refuses to accept (he owns the shop). I figure if I'll tip a crappy waiter I'll damn well tip someone permanently marking my body!

EDIT As in a particular waiter who's crappy, not like waiters are crappy or something. You know what I mean. Awesome I think this means I am finally getting tired since I'm not making much sense.

I don't tip my people... but I not only designed my own tattoos, but tipping isn't common and they charge $80-120 an hour in this country. P:

For one that expensive I really don't know. None of mine were above 300 I think, so the tip was never really a huge deal. Actually my largest was only 150, this new guy is dirt cheap because he's owned the shop for a while and it's in bumfucknowheresville so I think his overhead is very low. He's really good too.

I'd say 80 - 120 at least here as well. Of course Manhattan tattoos are going to be way more than say Des Moines.

Im guessing it would take about 4 6 hour sessions. Depending on how well you handle pain, if you need to take breaks and how good of an artist you go to.

My lower back piece took almost three hours and its not done yet and its a lot smaller then that.

As for price... I have no idea as I get discounts on my tats since the artist I go to is a friend of a friend lol.

Probably a couple grand though, again depending on artist and how good he/she is and their rep and the area your in.

Oh and FTR... my ankle tat I worked the same day I got it and its about medium size and right on the ankle bone.

My back tat I went on stage a half hour after getting it done.

    My back

My ankle which took about 2 hours to do and I had him stop for a few min so I could pop a perc lol.

Heh, the one on my neck took 2 hours and cost $300.... and I designed it myself!

Remember you gotta pay for it to be designed, too.

Yup... custom designs cost $80-400 depending on complexity before they're tattooed. My back is costing $500 just for the design but it's SUPER complicated and being done by the best artist in the entirety of QLD.

Heh, a couple times I paid $80 to have an idea designed for me to see if I liked it. One was so bad I left the shop and never came back.

tattoo costs vary depending on the shop the artist and placement. dont price shop for a tattoo like that. there are some things you dont go cheap on and tattoos are one of them unless you have lots of tattoo artist friends who will tattoo you for free (admitedly my downfall since i was an apprentice for 8 months my left sleeve is almost finished and im working on my right next.) im my area a piece like that on the back would go for probobly 800-1000 or 100-200 dollar sessions of 4 hours or so, sometimes longer if you can sit for it.

as far as ankle straps, anytime you get something that is where something is going to continuously rub on a tattoo, its not going to hold. im putting off my foot tattoos till i stop dancing for this reason and i wear strapless. if you wear the same style of shoe all the time i suggest avoiding that area for tattoo placement alltogether unless your going to want it touched up every 6 months or so. any more questions pm me.

i have never heard of someone charging you for a design even when you are getting tattooed by that artist! imo you are getting ripped off rediculously.

It's commonplace if you're getting custom work here not picked up on a wall. Someone is taking the time to go out of their way and draw you an image you're going to put on your body forever. It takes hours sometimes to do the art perfect to you before you decide you like it want it put on you. Why would you not pay for that? So you just let people draw you fabulous pieces of art and never give them any money and go to another artist?
