Default equal treatment to all or exceptions to the rule

Today I was sent home from school for arriving at 9:08am. I am suppose to be there at 9am. It was my second time being late for school in my 6 months of being there. Last week I was sent home for wearing leggings with a long sweater that was 4 inches above my knee. I was covered from head to toe, not revealing anything nor did anything show when I bent over, etc. The leggings were solid not see-through. Now I am a good student with an academic average of 92.8% and an attendance average of 95%. I am very passionate about what I do and care a great deal about doing a good job.

A while back we were having problems at our school with the dress code and tardiness amongst the students. For example, one girl wore see-through tights with a shirt not covering her ass. It wasn't a pretty sight. We had a meeting a couple weeks ago regarding these subjects and where shown what not to wear and told if we were one minute late we would not be allowed to sign/clock in.
After this meeting I had saw another student with a figure much like my own recently wear what appeared to be leggings before wearing my own leggings to school. The day after being sent home I asked her about it and she said her leggings had belt loops so they looked more like pants. Regarding my tardiness this morning because of an accident it took me one hour to get 12 miles. I usually leave at 7:40 to be at school by 9 but from now on I am going to leave by 7:15am. We can be there up to one hour early but we won't get credit till 9:00. I'll just go next store and read the paper or something.

I know I clearly broke the rules. My question to those of you out there is do you think rules should apply to all regardless of the circumstance or do you think there are exceptions. Where would you draw the line?

When you say school, do you mean college? I don't think there are any regulations here about dress code in colleges about dress code. I'm pretty sure they are a lot more forgiving on tardiness too.

I believe she's in a trade school for cosmetology, and one where there may be a sort of student salon that students doing hands-on time have to punch in for. Seems simple enough.

Sorry, it's cosmetology school, lol. You have to have 1500 hours to graduate. We punch a clock to keep track of those hours.

Yeah, it is sort-of, lol, we don't take clients until 10am but have theory, time drills, meetings, tests, etc at 9am. They treat us a lot like it is a job which is sort of is and I do take it seriously but I pay 17k to attend school there not including the monies I make for the school via taking clients. By the time it's said and done (we do stay pretty booked) I will have payed approximiately 30k to go there. We do get tips but I haven't been able to obtain mine because the director who supposedly keeps the tip money hasn't been there and the days he has I was sent home.

I def think there should be exceptions. With the BEST intentions and efforts...something can screw you up(like an accident on the way to work for ex.)

If you arent excessive or habitual about it....exceptions SHOULD be made IMO
