Default A little kitty help, I'm fostering a cat with a feeding tube

Her name is Grayce and she is anorexic, after having her kittens she stopped eating and instead of taking her to the vet the owners waited and waited and then surrendered her. She is really, really thin and they placed a feeding tube in her neck. Today she seemed to not be able to urinate or have a bowl movement but she has urinated and has had a bowel movement so that is good, means there is no blockage and she is getting nutrients.

Here is the question, due to not having any solid food she has a very runny stool so I was wondering if I could use kitty wipes to clean her up cause she is dragging some faeces to her little bed or should I just use a wash cloth and warm water?

She is a real sweet cat and I just want her to get better and get a good home. I have to give her meds now and feed her so I will check in a little bit, if anyone has any advice or recommendations let me know, please. Thank you.

I'd use a washcloth, only because her stomach may be over sensitive due to the all liquid diet and licking the baby wipe residue off herself may make her vomit...which would further her dehydration and possibly disturb the feeding tube.

And thank you. From the bottom of my heart for all that you do for animals.

It isnt the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. Anorexia is a term for when any creature stops eating..whether it is by choice or through illness.

Ah ok, that makes more sense. I was imagining kitty reading too mant fashion mags.

Good Luck looking after her HHL, you sound like your doing a great job. Hope kitty gets better soon.

Thanks. I gave her the meds, not he food yet, I am going to offer some tuna, the vet said anything cause they want her to try to eat. I will do the wash cloth, she opened her eyes a bit wider just now and put her paw on my hand, I swear it's like a thank you Anyway I will give her a few to let the med go down and then try to feed her and clean her a bit. Her nose is also a bit better, no more snot bubbles.

Her official diagnosis is Anorexia, pancreatitis and/or hepatic lipidosis, plus an upper resp inf.

I just went to check on her, she got out of her bed and jumped on the bed and laid next to me, gonna take a pic

If she doesn't accept the tuna, try some baby food. I buy the beechnut brand chicken in chicken broth. (gravy gives them tummy problems) My kitty wouldn't eat the first 2 days she came home with me and I had to give her water from an eye dropper and spoon feed her baby food. (She only has one eye because her previous owners abused her, and I didn't realize that her blind side was facing the door and she didn't like that. When I moved her bowl she started eating) Now I give it to her as a special treat.

You are truly an angel on earth! Good luck to you and kitty.

Aww HHL you're awesome. Be patient about the resp inf, sometimes they linger through more than one round of antibiotics even in cats healthier than Grayce. Hopefully she'll heal up, cats can make amazing turnarounds - my Jean-Paul was near death only a few weeks before I adopted him and just weeks later he had become healthy and full of energy and life!

Well that was not fun, she is so messy, I need to go out and get more paper towels. It wasn't fun for her, I don't care about it I mean I got kids so diapers are way messier lol

I took her off the bed and she had dirtied my comforter so now it's in the wash, but she is fed, mostly clean, had to get her more sheets and a new pillow to lay until I can wash her bed. I still have to clean her feeding tube, the incision area, this I am really nervous about, but I saw how the doc did it and I just have to make sure it's not weird, swollen or bleeding.

I need a break though, I don't want to move her too much so I am on the floor and my back is killing me lol

You might also keep an eye out for something called Nutri-Cal when you go to the pet store next. It's super high calorie goo, works great on sickly animals :]
