    Default Finding A CPA

Does anyone know of a good cpa with experience dealing with dancers? I'm in Nashville and have called so many cpa's and attorneys that i'm just frustrated with it. I have been told all day my line of work is not "up there alley" and why did I even form a c corp in the first place. Any tips or advice?

I would ask you several questions.

How good are your records? What accounting software do you use? How long have you been in business? Did you file a tax return last year? Do you have a copy of it?

If you find yourself answering these questions confidently and affirmatively it should be real easy finding a CPA. It shouldn't even matter what kind of business you are in. If you are very disorganized and need a ton of hand holding, then what you do would be more relevant I suppose and thus harder to find someone willing to do it.

FYI, you need to file two tax returns, one for your C corp and one for you individually.

All that said I don't know any CPAs in the Nashville area.

I just recently incorporated. Before that I only worked every now and then and never reported because I'm on SSI. I have made money since incorporating but also used it to set up my business line and other business related expenses. What kind of accounting software do I need? What system should I use for keeping records?

I would do a couple of things:

First, if you have not already done so, open up a bank account in your company's name. Run all your revenue and expenses through your bank account and do not commingle any personal expenses in there. This is a simple yet effective control to track your business income and expenses.

Secondly, acquire some kind of accounting software. I prefer Quickbooks. It's easy to use, relatively inexpensive and easy to find someone to help you. Quicken is OK, but really more for personal usage, not business. Go back to the date you began your business and record all your income and expenses.

ok thanks, Robert!I have already done the first part. I opened the bank account the day after I filed my articles of incorporation and got my ein. I have made a little bit of money since incorporating but it has been used for setting up my business line, etc. I'll go pick up Quickbooks today. Should I record the source of all income I make or does that not atter? Also, I'm planning to do some non-adult work, such as event planning, providing information and investigative services, etc. Should I do all of this under the name of my corporation?
