Default Owww...I look like a chipmunk

My dentist gave me cavity fillings yesterday on two different teeth that were beside one another. The doc said he needed to drill a little more extensively on one than he originally thought, but that it came out beautifully. I went to go leave and noticed that my cheek looked very chipmunk-y. I thought immediately that it was the anesthetic he used, since he shot a ton into that cheek. Now it's 3a.m. (my anxiety parties at night) nearly 12 hours later, and my cheek is STILL super-swollen. I look like I am smuggling a small melon in there or something, and it hurts. The swelling is very tender.
I haven't had too many fillings before and have never had a bad reaction to novacaine/lidocaine or anything but...does anyone know, is this normal? Has this happened to you before?
It's either that or I am doomed to chipmunk cheek for life. I noticed I bit my cheek up pretty good too while it was numb.

My cheek also looks like it is bruised too...man, all this from two fillings.
:::still keeping fingers crossed that this is normal to happen sometimes:::

    can anyone confirm this, anyone?

Probably swelling from the extra drilling he had to do....similar to if you had wisdom teeth pulled. If it is red and hot, get back to the dentist immediately as that could be a sign of infection. Try cold packs on your cheek for now.

Thanks Boxing. Called the dentist today and he said that once in a blue moon, when a dentist administers lydocaine (sp), he will hit a blood vessel in the cheek and it causes this reaction. It's painful but I feel better knowing exactly what caused it.

Is that my old dentist? Man, he's great. He needs to name his yacht after me because I bought it.

I hope your swelling goes down soon! I had a little spelunking done in my mouth on Tuesday and haven't fully healed yet. I'm looking forward to the day I lose all my teeth and I can get a nice set of dentures and be done with all this bullshit. Teeth are a fucking bitch.

^Aren't they though? I'm so with you.
That is not your dentist, it is actually one my boss recommended.

SO.....I think I'll go back to yours. He was about $100. less per filling and he never hit a blood vessel! Oh geez... ::knock on wood::

Yeah, I miss my old dentist. He was great, he went out of his way to save as much money as possible because he knew I couldn't afford much. Nice guy too. First dentist I've ever genuinely liked.
