Default Owie - had teeth pulled today

Had 3 teeth pulled. Hurts. Nothings helping. I just took my 3rd vicodin along with another Ibuprofen 600.

Can smoking cause dry sockets? They say no sucking - maybe thats causing the pain? I know i shouldnt be smoking but would that be making it hurt

Yes smoking can cause dry sockets. At least, that's what my dentist told me when I had my wisdom teeth out. Also, don't drink anything through a straw for the same reason. I think I lasted a week before I HAD TO smoke. My bf said he smoked after getting some teeth pulled, but he kept the gauze packed in tight while smoking. I know you're not supposed to smoke, but maybe that will help.

Audrey we are more likely to get a dry socket from the bottom teeth being pulled. You should not cough, sneeze suck, or blow for at least 48 hours. Dry socket has developed 2 days after pulled teeth.

Baby the areas. Bite HARD on gauze. And don't spit the blood, swallow it you will be fine if you can handle the taste.

These cavities you now have need to clot. After the bleeding stops completely you will be on the easy street to recovery.

If bleeding is an issue, bite on a tea bag, the tannin makes blood clot. And never keep changing out gauze to DRY gauze pads they stick and may pull your clot off. dampen them first.

Sleeping up-right for one night after the oral surgery helps alot with clotting.

    Good luck.

The weird thing is they havent bled at all. Is that normal? Is that bad?! SHOULD i be bleeding?!?!

I had 2 upper and 1 lower molar on left side removed. No gauze at all. None. I think he sutured them up. I didnt think about it til now but last time I had a tooth pulled I was bleeding all over the place and had tons of gauze.

At least the pain is gone now. I think I built up a tolerance to Vicodin because of all the stuff at the end of the year. Finally took enough for it to work.

I had dental implants put in about two months ago after having teeth pulled. My biggest mistake was underestimating the pain and letting the vicodin wear off on the second day. I was in agony.

I had 4 molars out at once. They put a tiny pad of gauze on each that kind of plugged the hole up and it fell off after a couple days. I didn't have any bleeding and very minimal swelling as well (I think this was due to keeping my head elevated). I thought the gauze was supposed to stay put for longer than it did so I freaked out and called my surgeon. He said it was fine since there was sutures underneath it.

    Dental work blows though!

Great. you are clotting. And that is great. Take no asprin for a week.

Look at the wounds tomorrow and you will see dark holes that are filling in. That's you're clot! Keep them. Still, follow the instructions, it is easy to blow out a clot, then you get dry socket.

You're fine however. The bottoms suck.
