    Default ATTEMPTING to quit smoking

To quote Mark Twain "Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times."

I'm cheating, though. Got this freaky little blue pill that helps a lot when it's not making me dream freaky shit (Supposedly there's more potential side effects or some such, but the bugs bunny on acid dreams are as far as i can tell they only ones i'm getting).

Not too irritable and the cravings aren't as bad as they have been known to be. This chantix stuff is pretty weird, the first week you are supposed to smoke, until whatever is in these pills is all through you i guess, and then you're only supposed to smoke if you're about to die or kill or something. I dunno.

    I'll keep you posted.

Well... I wish you the best of luck.... I feel better for not smoking now, but I do miss it when I do things I used to do when I smoked (driving, sitting at a restaurant waiting for food.....)

If you haven't already thrown out all of your lighters and ashtrays.... do that. And stock up on some gum....

    Good luck....

    best wishes!!!

about the dreaming though: it may be the quitting smoking that is causing the freaky dreams. there's some grad studies at my school studying the effects of quitting smoking on the psyche and unconscious. interestingly, we just had them talk to us about in classes today.

    Good luck, Madcap!

Make sure you clean and Febreeze everything that smells of smoke, as scent is such a trigger for a lot of people. As was alwady suggested, throw away lighters/matches... clean out ashtrays... depending on where you live, there are lots on online support groups too.

Good luck!!! I also quit many times Eventually I did and it is one of best decisions I have ever made. Those suggestions about throwing away lighters, cleaning out ashtrays, etc., ... very good ideas!

Ooooh! And make sure to get your clothes drycleaned. Once you haven't smoked in a while, stuff that you've worn while smoking (especially stuff that has just been hanging out in the closet like coats and such) will smell like total ass to you.

Good luck - I did it ten years ago, very hard to do. For me tho, it was the habit not the nicotine cravings. PLus all the triggers, ie a cig w/ coffee, beer, post-meal, pre-meal, post-sex, pre-sex, etc. Not too much u can do with sex and meals, but maybe u should lay off coffee and beer ( or other triggers) while you are quitting. Or limit them so u wont further tempt yourself.... plus what everyone else had said

    U can do it!!!!
