Default Is your city a "miserable" place to live ?

I saw this on MSN today and was pretty surprised . The headline was "Top ten miserable cities in the US" or something to that effect . Detroit was number one and Prividence RI was number 10 ......they have it all explain in the Slideshow as to how the came to these conclusions , enjoy !

I live just outside a metro area but thankfully it's not one of the misery cities listed. In fact my area has been on more than one of the Forbes best lists for several years now

If Los Angeles is number six, then Lord please spare me from five that are even worse!

Not sure that Stockton really counts as a "city," but it is definitely a miserable place.

    I my new town!

It's tough in NYC. People are often cranky. That crankiness is contagious.

The cost of living is insane. I cringe at the thought of having to shell out $1,900 for an apartment that amounts to a large closet with a bathroom attached.

Everyone is trying to one-up each other. Get into the hottest clubs, the hottest restaurants, wear the most avant-garde designers, buy shit at the most expensive boutiques.

Kinda makes me wanna give up my material possessions and move to a tropical island.

One of my best friends still lives in Detroit suburbs. She is fucking miserable. I am so glad I don't live there anymore. As far as quality of life goes there, its pretty much non-existent.

Yes. My city landed the #5 spot and with all the crime, high costs of living, trash, pollution, etc...I'm surprised it didn't land closer to the #1 spot.

I'm miserable in LA. I'm so glad I didn't move to Stockton for college. I have a friend there now and she sounds totally depressed. Not much to do there but drugs.

Its crazy , I wonder what cities where 10 , 11, and so on ....I would like to see them all listed . I am not real happy where I am now for reason listed about those other cities , commute times , crimes etc .......When I lived in the middle of nowhere I hated it too . I want to move to Europe

Large American cities will always be more miserable than medium-sized ones. Generally the competition to live there is a big factor, that plus the instability of the economy and the drug factor.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

I dont think it had much to do with the size of city , the rating where based on other statistic , they did how ever have to have a certain amount of people living in the city in order to be considered .......

I live in a Detroit suburb, and life around here has become pretty damn miserable. The whole state is having issues, so it's not surprising to see Flint as #3. Maybe if we had something to look forward to, some kind of light at the end of the tunnel...but there are no jobs here.

I can't wait to move in a few months!!

Yes. I know their 'rating' didn't, just that they looked at lage cities. And at first you'd think it's independent of the size of the city. Like why? But when you take a look at the statistics, you see a strong influence in the city population. I'll leave it to the social scientists to figure out why. I can only speculate on things like population density which influences the hings they included in their index. Ther also some positives to large city size, if the society there wants better things, like culture etc., but mostly people do not care.

I think Charlotte got a shitty rating because of the unemployment numbers... I think it's crap though, more and more people continue to move there by droves, if things were miserable the migration would have shifted by now...

I'm with you though, I think Charlotte is a very nice place to live.
