Default stage name--Would 'pixie' be inappropriate if not a tiny dancer?

I'd like a little feedback on your thoughts on using 'PIXIE' as a stage name.

I'm planning on returning to dancing after ~year hiatus, since I now have a 6-month old. I need a new stage name for a couple reasons, and was going to use 'Pixie.' Watching LA Ink inspired this, and I love Tinkerbell, lol. I think it's easy to pronounce and remember. But, my friend's husband brought up the fact that I'm not exactly pixie-like in stature. I'm very athletic and still working to get back to my pre-baby muscular physique. At 5'5", it's not like I'm an amazon, but not tiny by any means.

I know this is mostly over-analyzing, but your opinions/thoughts would be very much appreciated! My only other name prospect is Jynx. I really want to be unique, but memorable.

    Thanks!!!

I think if you had one of those pixie hair cuts, it could work but personally, I wouldn't use the name. I think it'll be kind of weird if you are average looking.

My thoughts...not a fan. As for Jynx, makes me think of a cat.

Every Pixie I've known has been a tiny Asian girl. If you're muscular and medium sized how about some sort of cute, but Raaaarr kind of name. Kitty, Jaguar, Xena

I think if you're not pixie-ish in physical appearance, life as "Pixie" is going to eventually be more annoying than it's worth.

I used to work with a girl named Pixie, and she wasn't small or tiny, just average. She used to put what she called "pixie dust" (fine glitter) by her eyes, b/c her name was "pixie" (thats what she would say).

    OMFG, that is so funny...

I like the name Paris for sure, worked with a few of those. Pixie is right out if you aren't petite, I would think. I forget if I have worked with any but trust me as a DJ you sometimes have to announce dancers with names that just don't work right, and you'll be better off with something else.

I mean it could be worse, I have worked with some amazingly poorly named women, really strange or ill-fitting names that make pixie sound great by comparison. Sometimes you have to really stifle the urge to comment somehow, but of course that would be extremely unprofessional and this is now off-topic thank you very much.

I guess you can go with whatever you want, but it does fit with someone who is tiny.

I liked someone else's suggestion of Xena (if you want a "different" kinda name). But no matter what you choose, you will always get the inevitable question. "Is that your real name?" With a name like Pixie, or Xena, thats ALWAYS going to be a question.
If you choose something a tad more believable then you can sometimes avoid that question.

    Just a thought.

i guess i didn't originally think about requiring the looks of a pixie. i mean, i thought i'd use the name after pixie on the show la ink on tlc. she's not small and doesn't bear any resemblance of a pixie. that's just her real name, lol.

even using a name that could be my real name (i onced used lexi), i'm always asked if it is or not. maybe it's just my location, but guys always assume we'd never use our real name. i used to be isis. i can't now since there is now an 'icis' at my club, and i feel the need to have a fresh new start, since it's been over a year i've been away. however, i really fit the isis personna--greek goddess.

anyone know of anything workable that means something similar to strength or power? xena isn's so bad, but i'm not sure. i'm at a loss right now!

I worked with a Pixie who had a very pretty face, high voice, and pointy fairy boobs like a Brian Froud drawing. She wasn't short, per se, but she was petite. She got her boobs done and wrecked the image.

I think unless you resemble a Pixie, then pick something else.

xena is also the name of my old neighbor's great dane, lol!

so, i do like shiva! although, i've just stumbled upon an idea. but, it goes against my ideas of being unique in a way.

i could be 'coco.' you know, after coco=nicole austin=ice t's wife. in all seriousness, i resemble her A LOT. i just stumbled upon her pics somehow (not even sure what i was looking at??). we have very, very similar facial features, except my nose is much smoother, for lack of a better word. my figure is similar too, only i'm not quite THAT curvy--definitely not toting 39dd's; and i'm a couple inches taller.

    thoughts anyone?

I think Coco sounds perfect. I, too want to advise against using Pixie unless you clearly look pixieish. Anyone with the right attitude could pull it off in the real world, but in the club, dealing with the lowest common denominator, the rules are different.

My first stage name ever was Chyna, as in Philips. Every single fucking guy was like, "Why's yur name China. You ain't Asian." Nightmare. If you go by Pixie, for example, I can imagine guys making comments about your size/weight that otherwise would never, ever be made. A name like that invites asshole comments, unfortunately. Most guys are not very witty or savvy and you needn't give them easy targets. I've learned the hard way.

I agree with Roseleigh! I only know really small Pixie's! I think it only works for petite and short girls!
