What state are you in? Why do you need a visa to dance? Most places could honestly care less... they just want a drivers license to prove your age. Now, if you need a business license (like in Nevada) thats another story.
I say if you really need the money just go dance. Im 99.99999999% sure youll be fine.
^^ that's what i was gonna say too. why not dance in a state where they don't require paperwork or licences, until then??
but then again, i can understand that you don't want to risk anything, but i really think you should be fine.
I would go to a club-- give them your passport, and maybe a driver's license if you've gotten one of those, and not say anything.
most places of the neighborhood variety probably wouldn't care-- and those places that WOULD probably wouldn't say anything for a couple of weeks.
all you would have to say is that either a) you'll bring it in, or b) it's coming in two weeks.
a lot of places ask for stuff but then forget about it as long as you can prove you're eighteen.
also-- even if that wasn't the case you could still dance parties no problem, so maybe start researching that.
Thats what I was thinking....I don't need a dance permit and I have a drivers license, and I've lived here for so long that my accent is about as Southern Girl as it can get! I think the chances of something bad going down in the 6 weeks or so that I would be waiting on my paperwork are pretty damn slim. I guess I'm just worried that, knowing my luck, my club would get raided or something in those 6 weeks and I'd be likelol!
Ugh, I dunno, what a stupid situation!

It's actually not a stupid situation at all.
Bureaucracy sucks but you did learn a lesson: it's important to stay on top of things when dealing with international situations and paperwork. You really can't rely on people to do things right unfortunately.
Things could be worse. You could live in Russian. There the bureaucratic run-a-round is frustrating beyond belief, with straight up "you couldn't make this shit up" situations of endlessly dark humor. Oh, and the timeline is drawn out to years, not months, and oodles of screw ups to boot.
That being said, the laws are in place for a reason. They are designed to protect the American people, and I for one appreciate that.
The angel on my shoulders says that you should go back to your advisor and not leave the office until they tell you exactly what to do so that you can live for the next two months with out income. Put your foot down and have them help you... really help you. People in those positions often do the "I'm sorry...*shoulder shrug*" move but you have to let them know that it's not acceptable.
The devil on my shoulder tells me that you should take your passport and check out clubs and audition. You'll get hired. You certainly won't be the first girl that strips with out paperwork. My advice, go to the smaller clubs that deal exclusively in cash. You'll only run into problems when clubs have funny money (that needs to be reported to the IRS) or if they are chain clubs that have some sort of standardized system in place to cover their own asses.
Good luck.
