Default what should I know before I have my carpet professionally cleaned?

so my doggie has been sick the past couple of weeks and there's a couple of puke and poop spots. the puke spots are stains, the poop spots aren't really, but still-- I want to have my carpet professionally cleaned.

what should I know before I get my carpets cleaned?
Stanley Steamer quoted me $189 for my bedroom and living room to be cleaned, protected and de-oderized.

What questions should I ask whatever company I do pick?
I don't mind going local, but I figure national companies tend to be more reliable-- maybe that's just perception.

Please help me out. I'm going to do this in a couple of weeks.

Have you tried Spot Shot on the spots yet? If you're just looking to de-spot your carpet, I highly recommend this product--it has gotten years-old poop, puke and dirt stains out of my carpet. It's about $3 and can be found in a blue-and-orange can (or spray bottle) in the carpet-cleaner section of Target.

If you're thinking of overall cleaning, you might consider the Rug Doctor. Surprisingly enough, I've heard very good things about those.

I totally recommend using the Rug Doctor system which you can rent at Lowe's for $20 a day (plus a $5 bottle of cleaning fluid)! We just rented one a couple of weeks ago. It's super easy to use, has an attachment for upholtstery, and, yes--do your mattress! You'll be totally grossed out but glad.

If you've just got money to burn and don't wanna mess with it, hell--have it professionally done. But for $25 you can easily do it yourself.

is it the same quality though? I don't want dirt and crap going deeper into the carpet.

Hmmm...It did an great job for us and I'm really picky about my home. The thing has crazy suction power. I don't know how to compare to pro because I haven't used pro, but here are some reviews: http://www.epinions.com/reviews/The_...r_att_abrtd_=1

I just got a bissell steam cleaner and my friend helped me do my carpets. It even took out red wine and grease. It cost less than hiring a company if you used it 2 or 3 times and its really pretty easy to use. The only thing is its heavy so you will need help doing the stairs. That is my recommendation.

Whatever you do make sure you wait the recommended amount of time before moving your furniture back. My friend was too impatient and moved her bed back while the carpet was still slightly damp. When she moved out 6 months later the carpet under the bed was covered in mould and she had to replace the whole thing.

We used to do steam cleaning. Then I replaced some old carpet in the living room and the pad was moldy. Yick. So we tried ChemDry the next time. It worked just as well, and the carpets were dry in maybe 2 or 3 hours! They have a pet urine special too. Check 'em out!
