Default Has anyone ever had a perm??

I am the laziest hair styler in the world. The best hairstyle I ever had was braids,, lol I didn't have to do anything!!

I have long hair now, and it is getting to the point where it is getting matted because I dont have time to brush it for a couple of days... ok I could be brushing it right now but I dont wanna!!

My BF thinks getting a perm with tight ringlets would look good, if it turned out the way he is imagining then I think it would too. But I dunno, when I think perm I imagine old nanna hair. Does the perm exist in the mdern world, can it look good or is it a DISASTER idea?

Ugh....I'd say disaster of an idea. I had one once, and I will never ever get one again. Perms can dry out your hair and you will be left with frizzy dry hair. If you can even brush your straight hair and keep it up nice, don't even think about perming. Curly hair takes work to keep it nice looking. It is far from a wash and go style. And when it starts to grow out...EEK! Looks awful.

Lol I see thanks guys! I need to shave my head and buy a wig I can pop on in the mornings I think, lol or maybe I should dread my hair. I am just not cut out for styling on a daily basis!

all true about traditional permanent waves... the grow out is especially hideous!

However, I've used Iso's Nexture in the past and it's a great way to have a texture service without the grow out or commitment... It's a semi-permanent wave that lasts about 20 shampoos.

Just like a traditional perm, if you color your hair, it will fade your color... I would do a semi-permanant color service a week or two later to refresh your color. Unlike traditional perms, Nexture is safe for highlighted hair.

If you're looking for a tight, springy curl, this may not be for you. It's much better for medium- loose curls/waves.

It will still dry your hair, too. Not half as bad as a TP, but you'll still want to use a pure protein treatment like Redken's CAT before and after the Nexture service.

You'll still have to use curl enhancing products to enhance and fight frizz. I'd stay away from blowdrying, too. Stick to air drying and diffusing.

If you don't like brushing it now you will hate having a perm.

I'd opt for getting a good cut. You could cut it shorter and/or get it thinned out a bit to make it more manageable.

I used to get perms on a semi-regular basis... but then I got a spiral perm when my hair got down to about my mid back. It was a nightmare.... my hair literally melted together into a knot in the back and I had to get my hair cut off. I will NEVER get another perm!!

I actually get my hair permed (have done for the last year)
I have REALLY fine hair, and it gets messy 30 seconds after I brush it, but with a perm its more forgiving.
Gives my flat hair body, and Ive never had problems with re-growth, since the style of perms Ive had actually SUITS a bit of straight on top.

Plus now I actually look like my sisters, who both have wavy hair. (I take after mum, with dead straight fine hair)
Theres no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake

Perms seem like a good idea, but they just wreck your hair. And anytime someone goes in for "ringlets" they seem to come out with poodle hair. Trust me, I know by experience. (Yikes)

Unless you have a supppppper skilled stylist, and uber long hair perms seem to be a bad idea. And when they grow out, they look even crazier cause you would have to get a spot perm.

Yeah I KNOW! The cost is insane. And believe me, I own a salon at the moment, and we charge $70 for a perm. Thats NOTHING compared to a lot of places. And you know what? The boxes of perms cost like $15.

They are just bad news. Luckily, we dont get to many people who wants perms. Usually just little old ladies who want their hair short and curly.
