Default How do these things effect your club?

    I'm talking about things like....

The number of televisions in the club
Pay-per-view sporting events (like UFC for example, or boxing)
    Kitchen with a full menu?
    Free buffets...free ANYTHING, really.....
    Happy hour
And any other extra "bells and whistles" I can't think of right now

I have found that in my town, these things attract the kind of customers we as dancers aren't too fond of. You guys know who I am talking about, I shouldn't have to explain.....
Do these things help your money, or hurt it??
The reason I thought of this thread is because I was sitting and thinking, comparing my old club to my new one, and it makes sense why I am doing so much better at my new club.
Number of TV's at my old club: 2 huge big-screens and like a half dozen other good-size flat panels. Most of which were placed right by the side stages. UFC every saturday, boxing as well.
Number of TV's at my new club: 2 total. Medium size, in the back of the club away from the stages. The club does not host televised sporting events, either.
The result: Guys actually come to the club to see strippers. Not sporting events that they can't afford on pay-per-view at their house. At my old club, I would be on one of the side stages, and people would be tellling me I was in the way of the TV, trying to look around me, doing the "shoo, get out of the way" motion with their hand. Needless to say, no stage tips and certainly no lap dances on sports days. My girlfriend put a champagne bucket on her head for her stages one time during a football game and nobody noticed.
At my old club: Kitchen with a full menu including steak and seafood. Free food buffets several times a week.
New club: No kitchen, just a vending machine.
The result: Guys actually come there to see strippers, not get a free taco buffet or a 2$ steak special. There would actually be homeless people coming in off the street when we would have free buffets at my old club. Management allowed it! There was no drink or dance minimum to get the buffet, all you had to do was walk in the club. Not to mention that the food from the kitchen was so good, people would come there just to eat. I can't tell you how many times I asked for dances and was told they were there "for dinner" and were leaving right after. Sucks when the food at the club overshadows the entertainers.
I understand why owners and management make the business decisions that they do to have these kinds of things. I know it makes them mad dough and the profit big time from it. I don't want a lesson in business, all I want to know is how it effects your money at your club, in your town.
My new club is just a simple, no frills strip club. People come there for one reason and one reason only: To watch strippers and get lap dances. Not for food, not for sports, for girls. I love it. The club has been open for at least 10 years under the same name...I guess they are doing something right.

We have free lunch specials and no cover charge AND I FRICKEN HATE IT. We attract an awful lot of cheapasses, guys that just sit at the bar the whole time, etc. It's ridiculously annoying.

I hate buffets and whoever thought to have them in the club:
SC manager: "I know, let's have naked girls on stage, and shrimp cocktail, spaghetti and buttered rolls on the buffet. Brilliant!"

Yep, spaghetti and strippers sure bring in the big rollers...

our tvs are only on during important games and even then, you have to really squint up at them to see the scores, so no one really comes in for them.
We have a free buffet that some dancers and customers partake in, I hear it isn't too bad.
If you want something special you can order it, like sandwhiches, chicken fingers or burgers.
We're located kind of out of the way of foot traffic so I don't think many come in just for the free dinner, plus it's 15 to get in after 7 or 8
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Buffets -- we have them every Friday afternoon; I think they're free. A lot of guys come in just for that and leave.

TV's -- there are many throughout the club, including a couple of huge plasma screens. Working during major sporting events and UFC fights, you have to sift the crowd to find the guys who are willing to buy dances.

The buffets and TV's are my pet peeves. They may help the bar, but they don't help me much. We also have a kitchen with a full menu -- not sure if this hurts or helps. A lot of guys come in "just for lunch" or "just for dinner" but others will stay and spend money.

I'm intrigued that your no-frills club is a better work environment than a more steakhouse-with-tits type of place. Makes sense, though.

I HATE tvs in a club. HATE THEM. Little pisses me off more then to have a guy say "I'm just watching the game" NO YOU FUCKING ARENT. If thats really all you wanted you would have stayed home or gone to a sports bar where you'd get your drinks for half the damn price. You came here to see naked chicks and you're just using the damn game as a cover to not have to pay for the privilege of seeing T & A.

At my old club, when they were there to watch the game, they really were there to watch the game. Nothing whatsoever could pry their attention from the television screen, not even topless women on stage. I never understood it. Just stay at home and watch for free if you're not going to watch the dancers, much less pay them!!

Yep. They really didn't care about that anyway. I mean the kind of people they attracted in there most of the time might as well have been homeless! Guys who had just enough money to pay the cover if there was one ( free entry before 6 p.m. and 5$ afterward) get the free food or the 2$ steak and 1 beer that they would nurse all night long while staring and drooling at all of us.

Either that or they just want to be selfish bastards that have to have their cake and eat it too. I could just hear them saying to eachother "Dude, come on lets go watch the game at the strip club so we can stare at titties too" Of course not even giving a thought that there are people there to make a living. Cause of course these guys have no intention of tipping on stage or...oooh...a lap dance....

I can totally relate with this too. At my old club I would actually have people get mad at me for trying to sell a dance during a game! Like they would actually get pissed. I remember one time a guy looked at me, threw his hands up in the air and in a very frustrated tone said "Can't you see I am watching the fight?!?! Then muttered under his breath "Jesus Christ just leave me alone..."

Extras are just for cheapskates. Pool tables are for pool halls. Food is for a restuarant. Stripping is going waaayy downhill when you need a gimmick to bring in a few lousy customers.
    I personally hate pool tables.

Too many TVs distracts customers from the girls. Especially when big sporting events are on

Free anything draws a bunch of cheapasses who spend JUST the minimum at the club and don't tip for shit. And they damn sure don't buy dances.

Lots of specials just trains customers to be cheap all the time. Guys who would spend bigger money at the bar, on dances, VIPs, etc are actually discouraged from doing so. This is bad for EVERYONE. It's bad for the dancers immediately, but bad for the bar long term. Unfortunately, managers don't look at the long term, or even more than 3 seconds in front of them. They will run a club straight into the ground for the sake of running up tonight's door count.

Whilst I agree that I have never made my money from people who are around pool tables I will give them some credit ... it depends on the club tho'... there are a few clubs that will allow you to charge (esp. if it is slow and the guys seem to be pool players) to play topless pool

I also used to know a girl when I first started stripping who was a little bit of a pool shark (so it helps to know how to actually play and beat the average joe) so she would hustle for lap dances from the pool tables. If she won, they would buy a lap dance. If she lost, she would buy them a drink. ... and they would agree to it!

(Naturally she didn't do it too often and win every game.. she was smart enough in that respect at least..)

Otherwise, yeah, I despise them as much as you do.

I agree about keeping TVs and big screens to a minimum if a strip club must have them. Even then, if they must have them have them play "on topic" video not porn.. play Miss Nude Australia or Exotic Angels videos or something along the lines of "stripping" at least. Or better yet.. have a projector TVs so that you can "roll it up/down" as needed !

TV's don't belong in the strip club AT ALL. My #1 pet peeve is how televisions are popping up absolutely everywhere, which is another subject kinda, but there is absolutely no fucking reason to put a TV in a strip club. I get really angry when I see them. There's this one club in Portland (Exotica) where the walls are basically papered with televisions - it's a very small club and there's at least forty or fifty TV's in there, maybe more, plus lottery machines. It put me in such a bad mood, reminded me of when my ex-husband would be so absorbed in football I'd be dancing around naked trying to get his attention and he wouldn't notice.

WTF is it about guys in shoulder pads and tight pants that are so much more fascinating to most American males than ACTUAL NAKED WOMEN??

I hate tvs in the club. At my last club-nice, fancy place, FULL of freaking tvs. There was a tv in the champagne room. WHY? I would not go in on fight nights. Just stupid. People should get cable or go to a regular sports bar.

They had a buffet, too. Blech.

I start a new, new club on Saturday (yeah, been bouncing)-seems tv free. I saw one, but it was for ads for the club. As best I can tell, no food either. Juice bar. Yeah.

Cherrybomb, your new club sounds great! *packs stuff, goes to CB's club*

Tv's suck. I think they should never be in the main showroom of a club.

PPV event should be limited if done at all for the same reason as the tv's.

Full menu's rock. Especially in an upscale club.

Free buffets are good for dayshift. It's a good excuse for guys to stop in during the work day. Free anything else sucks.

Happy Hour rocks for the same reason that the buffets do.

Sounds exactly like the management at my old club. I swear it's all they cared about. They didn't give a hoot about anything, especially us, as long as champagne sales were high. The people who would buy champagne at my old club were all little Kevin Federline wannabes who wouldn't get dances, wouldn't tip on stage, just sit there with their 40$ bottle of house champagne and orange juice, and "post up" so everyone could see how cool/player/fly they are or what the fuck ever. There would be nights with 20 open bottles of champagne on the floor and no dances going on. Of couse, that made management happy cause they were making money and still getting our house fee.

Sounds like my ex-boyfriend. That relationship fucked my head up so bad
To answer your question, I don't know. I don't think we will ever know. It's a downright ridiculous phenomenon that will never be figured out, I fear.

My club runs a free buffet, but only from 11-2. I think it actually helps the club, since a fair # of those guys actually buy dances afterwards, or at least give stage tips. With 7 stages, this can add up quick.

Theres tons of tv's, but I've actually heard customers complain about it. I think theres so damn many that it becomes overwhelming, in a bad way that even the guys reckognise.

I'm at the busiest club in Dallas though.

Phoenix was a whole other story:

Neighborhood bar type clubs with 2 or 3 tv's, which guys used an excuse to come in. And guys who actually came in for the tv, and looked at you like you were an alien if you asked for a dance. Also, happy hour from 11-7 that attracted non-spenders. And half the time they didn't collect a cover charge. Ugh!

^^ I'm curious what PHX club that was. Sounds like I might be in there now!

I can tolerate a TV or two, or even three, in the case of my current place, where the big screen is over the bar in a separate room and the two small screens are placed in such a way that it is theoretically possible to see both the score and the tits. But then, I'm also not afraid to call a guy out on his Al Bundy complex if he tries the "I'm just here for the game" line.

"Ok, I'll be back for you at halftime/the commercial!" has worked for me with those guys, by the way.

I'm anti working anywhere during free lunch time. I'm iffy about even working clubs that have it. I had terrible experiences in Dallas at 3 different clubs with this.

My last club (in NJ), on the other hand, actually had a small 4 star restaurant inside, but where it was, the people eating couldn't see the girls, and there just wasn't much clientele overlap. Here and there, a guy would be at the stage eating shrimp or something else absurd like that, but the only real effect I noticed was a higher willingness of married guys to buy VIP time, since the whole place showed up as a restaurant on credit receipts.

The last club that I worked at had so many freaking TV's. I couldn't even tell you how many. The DJ even had one that he could watch whatever he wanted to on! It is true that many guys would come in just to watch some sporting event. As long as they were buying drinks the club didn't care.
