Stripper mom on Oprah tomorrow...3:00 here in California.
Kinda funny commercial . . . "Surburban mom by day, Stripper by night. Why? On to tomorrows Oprah". Derr, perhaps the money?

hopefully dr phil wont also a surprise guest star..like other shows
Yep, God forbid a loving mother do everything in her power to provide for her child. How unthinkable and evil.(Sarcasm, peeps.)

I am going to try to watch Oprah today...Anybody else?

MANY MEN WANTED TO LAY ME DOWN, BUT FEW WANTED TO LIFT ME UP
-Eartha Kitt

Ugh. I went to the site and read the overview. I don't see anything shocking about it so whatev I wont be watching it. Who cares, shes trying to take care of her kids.
"Why?" That's a question? Um, because she has bills and likes to be at home while her kids are awake, so she takes a well-paying night job? Der. Amazing what passes for intelligent discussion nowadays.
^^me too.

I'm watching it, and so far, up until the first commercial break, everything seems okay. No judgement. Her body is sick for a 41 year old mom of 3.
yeah deffinatley not as condecending as on the tyra show. i think its a good portrail of dancers.
I'm watching it right now and can say it's a pretty positive segment.![]()

I was worried that they would try and make her feel like shit. I gotta give Oprah a hand clap for making Marion out to be just like any other mother, except she has an unusual job. I also liked the attitude that her daughter had about her mother being a dancer and how others might react. Overall, I think this was an excellent piece and I wish more people showed dancers in this light.
On the superficial side of things, I am so jealous of her abs and her long legs. Whatever her work-out plan is, I would love to know, so that I could do it too!

It's okay. You did say that you weren't watching the show. And even though Oprah is my homie and I love her, I was worried that she would go the stereotypical "bad stripper" routine like most talk shows. Everyone talked about how bad Tyra went off on dancers, so maybe she should take a leaf from Oprah's book.
Wow! I can't believe Oprah had a positive segment about a stripper. You could tell she wanted to make it negative, but there was nothing in that woman's life to point a finger at. She came off as a very intelligent and classy woman--and very NORMAL. Imagine that! Even Lisa Ling was impressed with her.
I'm sure Oprah will get a backlash, but maybe this will enlighten a few people. I am still in shock that the interview went so well. Bravo!

There was some implication that she was 'only doing it because x, y, z', and it's not like they were giving her the thumbs up...Or that's how I took it. Certainly they were not denigrating her decisions, but it still seemed like "ooh, stripping...strippers...ooh". But that's probably true to life. Oprah is very reasonable.
Also, I hope I look anywhere near that hot in twenty years. God. I can't pull off those American Apparel socks. Lady puts my lazy stripper ass to shame.
I liked the show, but i too could tell Oprah was somewhat uncomftable with the topic. All and all i thought it was well put together and DAMN!! she looked great. I'm 39 now and hope i look as good as her in two plus years!!
MYIAH
you may be a MILF but FROM WHAT I'm told..I'm a a Glif!![]()

Great show!! I was floored!!
I'm so relieved to hear that it was overall a positive segment! Nice change of pace. Hopefully more of the same to come? Perhaps Jerry Springerish caricatures will be a thing of the past? Tyra, you're ON NOTICE. </Stephen Colbert>
Hey, semi-old-timers, do you remember when dearly departed Metal-n-Mitsu went on a talk show, intending to "represent"? I think it was on Tyra, in fact. And didn't the segment never air for some reason? Hmmm.

"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat." -- Anne Lamott

I liked it...but did you notice how Oprah was pushing her to get a differant job at the end of the show? "But you can get a day job..." when they were talking about her plans on becoming a personal trainer. IDK, maybe it was just me.
I almost wish I had my mom watch this today, so see that it's more normal then she thinks. And my stepfather, who keeps saying I'm getting too old for this job and won't be able to do it for too many more years (I just turned 25).
I was pleasantly surprised.
On the flip side, I don't think it's neccessarily cool to tell your 13 year old that you are a dancer.....ya know?
I have worked with plenty of people whose kids just know mommy works in a bar, or mommy is a cocktail waitress, bartender, etc.
13 is a little young to be knowing that, IMHO, I think 17-18 would be a better time to tell them.

It's great to see a stripper portrayed in the mainstream media in a positive light. But uh oh....Oprah power. That woman can turn an out of print book into a best seller. I wonder how many hot struggling mom's will show up for auditions this week!
