    Default Rant about USPS

I'm LIVID at the postal service right now. Freaking FURIOUS. let me start at the beginning.

At my last apartment, my mailman used to eat my mail, then regurgitate it weeks later after the bills were due. While I'm being fairly facetious, my mail used to show up weeks later, crumpled, and dirty. I joked around with friends often that my mailman smoked crack and ate my mail, but I was half serious!

I bought my house, and prayed that I'd have better luck with my mail carrier. All was good for the first year, until i came home to find my over-stuffed mailbox was broken! He'd shoved my mail in so forcefully that the plastic flap on the top of it was hanging by a thread.

I was furious! So i approached him the next day, and he told me that it was his "substitute carrier" and not him. So I lodged a formal complaint with my post office. They said they'd fix it. 1 month later, nothing. So I complained again. I was told to give it a week, and they'd be on it. That was in December. Obviously, I'm less than pleased but TBH, my mailbox is not the main flame of my fire tonight.

I signed online today to check the progress of a package being sent to me by 1-800-Petmeds, which should have come already.

I'm fucking FURIOUS and LIVID today because I find that the package was fucking DELIVERED! I don't have it nor does the neighbor that often signs for me.

I called at 4:45 today and gave them the tracking number and after being put on hold for a good 10 minutes, I get told that the computers are "down"! WTF!

There's no such thing as "down" computers at the PO. No, instead there's the "It's almost closing time and I don't want to deal with you."

So now I have to call first thing in the morning and find out where my package is. If it's not at the station I'm gonna have to lodge a formal complaint and stop payment with my visa. maaaaan I'm pissed!!!

I want to go break their mailboxes!!!! grrrrr.

    Love it!

Get a private mailbox NOW. UPS Store, Postal Annex, anything. You won't miss packages and it's a good personal safety measure. Also good for mail forwarding when on extended trips.

if he sees me he always waves, and asks how I am. And he'll wait for me, if I have a last minute thing to send. Also, he's picked my garbage cans out of the road and put them by my house once.

and our mailbox is kindof persnickety, but he still always makes sure it's shut tight, so no rain gets in or anything.

I gave him a piece of homemade apple pie once though, maybe you should try it! Bribery is always handy!

Sorry about your butthash huffing mailman, Chrissy68!

Whatever happened to: "Neither rain nor hail nor sleet nor snow nor heat of day nor dark of night shall keep these carriers from the swift completion of his appointed rounds"?

Perhaps it's an epidemic decline of USPS dedication to service. Late last year in San Francisco, a mailman was traumatized by a 6-lb Pomeranian...

I used to have EXACTLY the same issue with my PO. Mail would say it was delivered but I hadnt gotten anything. I'd get neighbors amil, they'd get mine...

I lodged complaints and bugged the hell out of them until he was investigated and eventually fired for this crap. My new mail carrier is fabulous. Keep up their ass until something gets done..go over their head to USPS headquarters if you have to to lodge a complaint against the entire branch for not doing anything about this piece of crap carrier.

    Good luck!

my parents live on a cul-de-sac, which means not a lot of parking. unfortunately, the mailboxes are at the curb, and the mailman just has to drive around the circle and put mail in the boxes...

however if there's a car parked on the street not even blocking a mailbox, but makint so that he can't just drive right up to it (like he'd have to drive around a car to get to the mail box, and MIGHT have to reverse in order to get right in front of it) he wont deliver mail to that house. there's been weeks that we dont get mail at all.

we've complained and complained, the neighborhood has complained. and actually, a bunch of the neighbors went en masse to the post office to complain. and yet nothing has been done, instead we all get phone calls from his supervisor saying that he is not obligated to deliver the mail if there is reasonable expectation of danger.

WTF?! its dangerous to deliver mail if a car is parked on the street?!

    You can submit a formal complaint to USPS headquarters at http://faq.usps.com/eCustomer/iq/usps/request.do?create=kb:USPSFAQ&view()=c{fc5b4410-57e1-11dc-51b6-000000000000}

There is an email form and a main phone number to complain if your local office isnt responding ot your issues.

My grandfather who is now deceased used to rant about the shittiness of the post office these days, he was an ex-mailman, oh the funny comments he made...

My mailman in L.A. was horrible too. We were always getting the neighbors' mail and who the hell knows where our mail was going. Once we got a huge packet of someone's company payroll! And it wasn't even for our building, the address on it was a few blocks away. We worked once with an actor who lived four blocks from us, and several months later got a big envelope for him from SAG. We also had a huge sticker on our mailbox saying "NO JUNK MAIL PLEASE" and another one inside saying "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO ADVERTISEMENTS" - and guess what our mailbox was always stuffed full of?

Could be worse, I suppose. I heard about a big to-do in L.A. about a year or two ago where some very expensive neighborhood was pitching a fit because their mail wasn't arriving until after 10 or 11 pm. Turns out that everyone at that post office happened to be from Mexico, so they'd come into work for a few hours in the morning, then go home for a long lunch and siesta, and get back to work later at night. People were pissed that the mail was coming so late and the staff at the post office just couldn't see why it was a problem.

I think the post office is just going the way of customer service everywhere nowadays.

I had this issue the other day with DHL, package was listed as delivered but I didn't have it! Luckily it was at my neighbors but it had the correct address so why would they deliver it there? Well apparently in the eyes of the carrier the number 21 looks exactly like number 22.
