Default is there any sneaky way toget out of a cell phone contract?

im with helio. they started as a good company but have went down hill dramatically. they have outsourced all of their customer service calls to india which irritates me a lot. theres nothing worse then having a problem that you need addressed and not being able to understand them or they understand you. plus i need a new phone and they are unwilling to give me a phone at the discount price by extending my contract since its not up till 09.

im just really unhappy with them, and want out. i miss t mobile. any ideas?

Someone told me that if you call and complain that you live in a dead area, it's a way to break the contract. I don't know how true that is, though. You may just have to pay the fine and break the contract.

I have Helio and I like them... they're cheap. The downside is that you pretty much have to handle the price of the phone on your own and I can't understand their help through those damn accents (yes, they outsource). They do email me after every time I call to make sure that I was satisfied at least. Half of the time, I can get someone who doesn't have such a heavy accent... try to ask for a new person or try writing them an email (I've found that they respond quickly to those.) What is wrong with your phone? I wasn't aware that they had discounts on their phones at all.

How to get out of a cellular service contract: http://www.wikihow.com/Get-out-of-a-...rvice-Contract

CellSwapper.com and CellTradeUSA.com are sites which you can auction your remaining contact off of.

The easiest way to me still sounds like claiming you have moved to an area without service.

they usually want proof of that, like a copy of the new lease.

Your best bet is to tell them you have either met someone, found work, or decided to move out to X to be with family. When you've visited X on occasion, you've had no reception, where in roaming, or whatever.

If it's a small company, they may want proof, but I suggest you stick to your guns. It's none of their business, you entered a contract that SHOULD state that you're held responsible for cancellation penalties under the assumption that the cancellation is an elective choice. By telling them you have to move for whatever reasons (work, money) you're free of your contractual obligations, at least where cancellation fees apply.

This is my history. Good luck!

Or you could just make all your calls from dead areas. I loved cingular, but I moved somewhere they didn't have service, so they were paying more for me to use my phone than they were making off me. I was able to terminate my contract without paying a penalty, got a refund on the phone I just bought, and kept my number when I switched to verizon. I ended up making $30 out of the deal. If there's an area by your house that they don't cover, just start making all your calls from there. They will want you to switch. Oh, and they didn't want any extra proof. They even started sending me letters suggesting I switch carriers.

I got my first cell phone from some random guy that wanted out of his contract that posted an ad in the college library. We went to T-Mobile and they switched it over without many questions. Said I was a family friend, or family i don't remmber. I got a free phone and cheap plan, he got out of the contract.

If they are providing poor service, THEY have broken the contract. Document every problem for a month, then contact a consumer advocate at a large newspaper or television station. They may let you out of the contract to avoid the negative publicity.

It is hard to get out of a contract today by claiming you are moving somewhere there is no service, because there are not that many places left. I even had service in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming, although there are dead spots in Idaho and Montana. But in the dead spots, there is nowhere to live, either, unless you are going to claim to be a sheepherder.

I left T Mobile to go with Helio as well, I terminated my contract early and paid a couple hundred dollars. Now I want to do the same with Helio as well, cause I get bored. Their best phone is the Ocean, which I initially thought was really cool so I got it. Now I want a better phone.
I didn't know they routed all customer service calls to India! No wonder they always have funny accents, lol.

yeah they outsourced. i remember when they first started the phone would ring directly to a customer service person in the usa. not press one for billing etc.

azn i did the same thing. i think the early termination fee is 175 for helio, i may just cough it up when i can afford it they have good service and options but dont have dick along the lines of phones and im sorry i cant stand the outsourcing. i have a feeling the company will be absorbed back into sprint soon anyway finantially they are not doing so well. helio runs on sprints cell towers.
