i didnt give an ultimatum. truth of the matter is it was a trick question because she said that was the answer she was looking for. its her choice to do with her life as she chooses, and if she chose to dance i would choose to be gone.

i can only speak for myself and say that i know that i couldnt life a happy life worrying about what people are doing to her if she was in a club and i know that ( I ) wouldnt want to have that burdon. we have gone to strip clubs together and had a good time. i just know that all stylists dont make crappy money. my wifes dad owns a salon in florida and his girls average 1k to 1500 a week. i wish my wife made that but we do ok for ourselves.

i wish you luck on whatever you do, i would just say that if you went to school to be a styist dont give up on that!

for the sake of sticking to the topic, I will say I agree with your above statement.

Your own salon in your own home, self-employed like others have suggested. Start from scratch and build your clientelle one at a time. Lots of tax writeoffs for your dancer income while you build your business. Complete control of your time. You can totally do it.
    my 2 cents.

Why did you stop dancing in the first place? Are you sure you won't go back to being burned out if you start again? Will any problems you had with dancing come back when you go back, or did you just need a break? Do you have a place you can stay in Reno so you don't have to drive back and forth every Fri night/Saturday evening? A cheap (but safe!) hotel, or dancer housing?

Ah, I hope I'm not being offensive, being new and trying to tell you advice.

I think your idea is great--how can you pass $1500 for two nights of work dancing?
And your other idea is also great, to keep doing hair and makeup for photo shoots and other clients. Then you can add to your portfolio and explain your work on a resume, and make some extra cash. Brilliant!

Well, my husband was a customer when I was a dancer so Id laugh at him if he gave me an ultimatum or said hed leave if I was dancing! But our situations are way different and thats cool. To each their own, ya know?

I have a plan. My salon is reluctant to let me go. They now have me working M-Tu-Th 9-2. Today I worked but had to leave because I got a call from the school nurse and had to leave 1/2 way through a haircut after I talked the guy into gettin CamoColor done after the cut! Im sooo pissed - woulda been a good tip! Damn damn damn

Dont wanna do kitchen hair! No freakin way and to open a real salon set up is very expensive and time consuming. Not to mention I dont want random people in my home. Whats making it so hard to build a clientel is that my mom does hair too so all family/friends of family go to her which is usually how stylists start out - family and them refering friends.

Is it possible to work with your mom at her place...just to keep your foot in the business and keep your skills honed? Even just a half day a week? Maybe down the road rent a little space close by, or even buy an old fixer upper?
    Just throwin' some ideas out...
