So, I can't remember if I posted about this before but I developed a massive infection in my incision and the doctor ended up ripping two inches of the suture line open to let it drain. I've been having it packed and dressed every day for the last six weeks and yesterday my nurse finally said it's closed completely.
I looked at it today and the two inches that never opened up is healed completely....there's no bumps or puffiness, it's just a pigmented line. The other two inches looks puckered and swollen still, just like it did right after the surgery.
What I want to know is whether the "no heavy lifting" rule still applies for ANOTHER six weeks since half the suture line JUST healed. I don't want to split it open again, but the stitches inside have healed up. They weren't really affected. The nurses have been able to see the inside stitches through the incision this entire time they've been packing it and said that it looked like it was healing up just fine.
I realize this is a question for the doctor, but the wait time to see her is ridiculous and we're in the process of moving right now. I just want to know whether I can help with the boxes and stuff or whether I should still take it easy for another month. Has anyone else developed an infection like this?
