Default I Mean It I Swear!! HELP!!

Okay, I know I've probably made about 18.5 threads about hair, but this time I mean it. I need to change the color. I wanted to go lighter, then I just wanted the top to be lighter, the underside still dark, then I wanted to go darker..... The problem is I like so many kinds of hair I can't make my mind up!!!

I just want to look less blah:

I feel that I look very washed out with my natural color, it's photographing a little lighter here. It's very ashy dark blonde/ashy light brown. It just looks dull. And I'm very pale, much paler than that photo shows, and I have blue eyes. I only want to go a few shades in either the blonde direction or the brown direction. I think if I went blonder it'd be a more safe move, but I still might look washed-out. If I went a little darker, it might be a little more exotic... but I don't know!!! I also like how light hair looks with darker eyebrows. Does anyone have any suggestions...?

^^^Damn I really need to clean that mirror.

    Try a natural red.

BTW, while we are on the subject, is it needed to point out the obvious: That it is just possible that if you are willing to judge the worth of someone simply by what you read on a website about them it might say a whole hell of a lot more about you than it says about the person you are judging?

Been there done that. Hated it lol! Some people can rock it, I never could. And I don't like how quickly it fades and how it really stains the hair that brassy shade permanently.

Try going just a shade lighter and then have lowlights and highlights put in your hair. Yours is about similar to mine and thats what I'm doing so it doesnt look so BLAH!

Hmmm...that way I'd get the best of both worlds.

You'll get more depth doing it that way.

I also like dark eye brows with lighter hair, I just color mine in.

Try darker eye make up to make it look more exotic. I'm 30 and still a huge fan of black eyeliner.

I have the same coloring as you. My hair is naturally ashy blonde (used to be much more "golden"), blue eyes, and albino pale skin.

I tried the red thing for a while. Darker red with an almost purple undertone made my blue eyes look intense but I did look very, very pale. Strawberry blonde made me feel washed out again. I bleached the red out vowing never again to dye my hair (I like being low maintenance) and realized that I didn't like that either. I did have some hi/lo lights woven in at this point and it definitely helped my hair not look so limp and dull.

Finally I tried dark hair. I love it! My hair is black now (which is quite a commitment) and even though I look white as a ghost and a little gothy I sure stand out. I wear a lot less makeup now since I'm not so washed out looking all the time. When most people find out I'm blonde they can't believe it because the dark just fits me so well. Figures, my grandma and I have the same coloring too except she had black hair in her younger days.

Dark seems like a riskier move. I'm biased because I love dark hair on pale skin and I think you could rock but I also think you'd be safe doing some hi/lo lights like Gemini said.

You have very similar tones as me. When I went with extensions my hair gal decided to go dark. Which was a surprise because I thought we were going blonder. So my hair is now a chestnut with a small amount of highlighted tones to make it look more natural. I LOVE it. My blue eyes pop and it instantly made me look like I had more of an olive complexion. In the black light it really emphasizes the face and makes you look a but more mysterious. I say go darker...but not a solid color. Get some highlights lightly mixed in.

Similar coloring here, too... I'm blonde now, but when I was dancing, I was a dyed brunette. It is a bit more dramatic. I did also have short hair, though, and it was still a pain in the ass to get the dark dye out when I was ready to go lighter/closer to my natural color. If you don't want to end up cutting the dye out after you get sick of it or ruining your hair with multiple bleach jobs, go lighter.

keep in mind that unless you have virgin hair scalp to ends, you cannot go lighter without bleach... previously colored hair will not lift with color.

highlights and lowlights will give you more demension and may be a safer route to go... I would just recommend against "chunky" hi's and lows, too dated.

Personally, I think going 2 shades darker with a warmer tone will make your eyes pop and your skin look like buttah. I'd use a demi-permanant haircolor because it would not damage your hair and there wouldn't be an obvious line of demarcation as it grew out.

Thank you guys so much!! I will post pictures when I've done the deed/had the deed done. I have always loved light skin, light eyes with dark hair too, my favorite beauties all have that coloring. I think I want to start going gradually darker.

So if you have cool coloring you can still use warm shades and vice versa? And do you know a good brand of demi-permanent hair color? And how does demi-permanent haircolor deal with switching shades? If I wanted to go darker still after the first try, could I dye a darker shade of d-p haircolor over it or wait till the original d-p fades out before re-dying over it? Sorry for grilling you!!

^^^I'm knowledgable in Redken Shades EQ since that's what I use in the salon. It's a pro product, but I think you may be able to find it on ebay. You don't have to wait until color fades in order to go darker with a demi.

Yes, you can have warmer toned hair even if you have cooler coloring- just make sure you don't get into really warm tones like orange and you'll be fine. Looking at your pics in "pictures of you" your hair at the moment is pretty warm, so you'll be fine. If you go with Shades EQ, I'd probably use something in the NB family (brown with red + violet added). It's deep and a touch warm and the added violet controls any overly gold tones.

If you are a light brown/dark blonde now and feel the color is "ashy" I'd recommend getting some golden blonde highlights. You should only have to come up two levels so it shouldn't be that difficult for your stylist to do.

I agree with this idea. The demi tends to add back more warmth as well.

    I agree with going darker.

I'm very pale, with cool skin tone, green eyes, and very ashy light brown hair.

I tried to do the whole highlights thing, went completely blonde, and both just washed me out. I had to pile on the makeup to not look completely bland.

I now go to a dark chocolate color with a demi-permanent dye and I look SO much better. I use minimal makeup, my eyes standout, my cheeks look rosier, and my ahir is much healthier minus the bleach, so its soft and shiny.

Like you! I've seen you in pics, I love your coloring. My family would murder me if I instantly went jet black though. But if I do it gradually.....

That's my natural color! I think I'd go darker if I were you, though I went red and I love it.

I have to admit that is a very striking combination. Pale skin, black hair and very blue eyes.
