    Default failure to appear

I was wondering if anyone's here has ever been charged with FTP and if so if they can me an idea of what to expect when I go to court.I was obviously arrested on a FTP today.I've been arrested many times in my life but I've never failed to appear so I have no idea what to expect.I have to go to court for it at the end of March. The original charges are from way back in '06.The paperwork for my courtdate in March doesn't say anything about the original charges just an FTP misdemeanor.

    Thanks in advance

    Depends.

Usually it's a misdemeanor. A fine. If it is over a parking ticket or something like that just pull out your check book.

If it is for criminal charges, they may opt to not let you go (ie jail) until your case is adjudicated. If you have a history of appearing in court on time and a good reason why you missed this one you might get a lecture and a fine.

If you have been walking around for two years I'll assume your charges aren't that serious and say you'll probably get the lecture and the fine.

You should be asking YOUR lawyer about this though. You DO have one yes? Even if you need to go to legal aid get one.

If you are part of a protest group they should have a lawyer available. Anyone who willingly entangles themselves in the law should consider some practicality in these things.

The original charges were disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest W/O violence. They were both considered misdemeanors and again that was 2 years ago.All the paperwork says I'm being charged with now is FTP for misdemeanor. So I can't figure out if the original charges are still pending. Here's the real kick in the cock. When I was arrested on the original charges I was released w/o bail in the middle of the nite while clearly still drunk.I think that alone shows neglegence. How can they release me on intoxication charges while still drunk.I didn't come home with anything telling me about a court date.I've since renewed my license and moved all within the same County.I would think that rite there should show I wasn't purposely trying to dodge, avoid, run, whatever from the charges.I don't have a Lawyer rite now.I'm trying to figure out how potentially serious these charges are to know if I should get one

I guess I had a FTA with assault charges. I never knew about the charges, was never arrested and never spoke with the police. WTF?

So I get pulled over for speeding and theyre like you have a warrant! So the next day I went to the jail (expecting to spend the day/night) and they just gave me a new FTA and then the charges ended up being dropped when I went to court.

Just curious, what is FTP? (I apologize for my ignorance...but when I think of FTP, I think of something completely different and irrelevant that I use at my office job)

    FTP means Failure to Appear.
It doesn't make you ignorrant.Like I said I've been arrested many many times but didn't know what FTP stood for til yesterday. And that's b/c I've never failed to appear.I didn't even know I had a cpurt date back then but that's a different story

The only reason I'm asking is b/c someone told me the orginal charges may not exost anymore but I'd still have the FTP warrant.I posted this on several forums including some law advice forums trying to get as much imput on what to expect or how much of an issue this is in general

Im sorry - I meant when i turned myself in I got a new court date - not a new FTA. Duh. And they just had me go home. Even if the charges are dropped you need to go make sure. Theyll probably give you a court date - youll go to court and theyll let you know the charges were dropped and send you home. Thats what happened to me.
