Default stop hair tangling at night?

Since I went blonde, even if I have had a professional blow wave, every morning i wake up with a birds nest at the back of my head.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

Someone suggested sleeping on a silk or satin pillow. I haven't tried this yet does anyone do this with success?

I was also thinking I could get a silk scarf and wear that at night??

A satin pillowcase worked exceedingly well for me after I bleached the holy hell out of my hair. My hair was practically dreading itself over night because it was damaged but I couldn't stand to cut it all off. I cut a few inches of the biggest damage off and then started using a satin pillowcase. My hair is just fine in the morning now. I think this is a cheap investment thats definitely worth making. I just bought a pack of cheap ones at Target.

Switching conditioners made a big difference to me too. I'm far from being good at hair but once I switched from Paul Mitchell's Color Protect stuff (my first stylist's recommendation) to using Joico Kpack Intense Hydrator I found my hair had more moisture, strength, and manageability. Maybe thats something to try too?

ok ill try it then, thanks.

It's a vicious cycle - it's dry and damaged but when i wake up and it's like that i use the GHD on it which isn't good for it!

Its either that or wash and blow dry it again! arrrgggh so annoying.

^Kat's right, bleach blonde needs a stronger conditioner. I like Biolage conditioning balm. If I use the cheap stuff my hair is like a rats nest. At night I use a soft cotton scrunchy and put my hair in a ponytail.

I sleep with a low ponytail every night....actually I thought all girls did this if they had long hair. Guess now I know! heehee.

Sometimes even high end stuff isn't strong enough for colored hair. If yours seems dry you might want to try other formulas till you find something more silkening.
Also, its best not to wash your hair too often if you don't have to. Too much shampooing is drying to your hair.

My hair sometimes gets a kink from the ponytail but that's much easier to deal with than knots.

Well, I have naturally curly hair, which I wash before bed and the straighten when i get up, so I don't really notice one. I guess I might, though.

yeah i use the satin pillowcases, but i find that a high pony (like really top of head high) keeps my hair from tangling and gives me root volume
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

You could try a loose braid when you sleep too, though you may get kinks (or really pretty loose waves). That's what I do when I'm sick of my hair tangling.

You might want to try a leave in conditioner. You could also wear your hair up in a bun of some sort at night.

Just let it air dry after putting a leave in conditioner in.

satin/silk pillowcases work wonders, but if that isn't what you want, there's also "sleeping caps"

It's basically a shower cap made of satiny material, with a much more soft elastic so it isn't uncomfortable.

It's for people like me, who can't stand the feel of satin on my face when I go to bed (I love my flannel sheet set!) and my hair always is silky smooth the next morning.

schwarzkopf leave in conditioner is the BEST. i have double processed blonde hair, and after using this stuff, it never tangles anymore, ever. its worth the extra money, it lasts forever because it works so well! oh, and no greasies.

I used to braid my hair until I realized it left pretty waves at the bottom and nothing on the top or tips, so I put it all in a big bun on the very top of my head! Use a large elastic looped two or three times, and you'll wake up with curvy pretty hair that's not as kink-ified as braids would make it.

Since I've started doing this, there is no going back to braids

Jaizaine, I got my sleep cap at Kmart for $3. I'm sure you could find them at Walmart, CVS, etc, or higher end ones at Sallys

This happens to me too. If you put your hair in pigtails (like the kind that hang in the front, not in the back) you wont be sleeping on your hair and this wont happen

Well, if you don't want your hair to wave up and you can't braid, then I suggest you wrap your hair at night. It's more of a black girl thing, but it worked for all of my white friends that I've done it for.

What you do is part your hair in the middle of your head....maybe it's more clear to describe it like this: comb your hair down all around your head like cousin It from the Adams family; OR as if you were about to give yourself a bowl cut. Put a part in any direction right in the middle of your head, being sure to keep it in the middle and not part through the hair hanging down around your head. (You know how a pie has that slit right in the middle? Like that.) Spray your hair with the leave in conditioner of your choice. Assumin that you are right handed, place the palm of your left hand on the part that you made in the middle of your head. (If your left handed, you'll place your right hand there) Then, starting from the front of your head, brush the hair around your head in a circular motion. It should stick since it is wet with conditioner. If it falls, either add a bit more conditioner OR if you hae really thick hair, you may need straight pins to keep it in place. Once your done, wrap your head with a satin triangle scarf.

When you wake up in the morning, your hair will be dry and soft. Take the scarf off, and comb your hair down in the direction that it is wrapped in, to avoid snagging it with the comb. It will be sleek and straight but will slightly bob under on the ends. HTH! PM me if you need pics etc. to better understand the process

    You beat me to it sparkleeyz;
    .

I second this jaizaine. For me, I need pins to hold it in place. If you get the long black bobby pins instead of the short amber ones, you will need less of them to hold.

The end result looks like your hair is a scarf wrapped around your head with a hollow "hole" on the top where you pin it, sorta like the bottom of a French twist.

Note: If you sleep on your back (For example), then you might not want to load up on pins at the back of your head. Doing so might cause you to wake up with a headache because of the pressure they place on your scalp all night.

I suggest that you place the pins strategically away from pressure points, such as your temples, the nape of your neck and right above your ears. The scarf will hold the bulk of your hair in place, the pins are just so that the individual strands don't become loosed.

I must say that I would have never considered wrapping it while it was wet . sparkleeyz, what leave-in do you use when you do so?
