    Default added to portfolio...

    South Africa Rand Bonds

    Yield: 10.5%
    Matures: April 2011
    Currency: S. African Rand

I could hedge the currency risk at about 2%, but I don't want to do that.

It is a risky investment, no doubt, but I don't feel that there is a risk of the bond going to zero in only 3 years...

I'm also looking into Iceland bonds... probably even more riskier as the country's largest bank is 7x's more likely to default than a european bank...
-there is only 300,000 people there
    -fish is what they export
-one of the wealthiest nations on the planet

    Yield is 10%
Oh Canada, we stand on cars and freeze...

^^^ Swiss bonds are far less risky in terms of interest rate minus currency risk (which could turn those 10% yields into red ink overnight) ... but the minimum 'buy-in' price is pretty high.

yeah, thanks Mel... but I am able to get into the Rands for $10,000... for me to get into the Swiss notes I am looking at much more... can't afford it right now..

my choice on the rands was based on a visit there I had last summer. i saw alot of development getting started their, people working hard, and a general 'optimism' that was in contrary to what we get in the news over here...
