    Default sprained ankle pain releif??

Recently iv not been having a good time.

I passed out during a spray tan yesterday due to low sugar levels, cant eat properly, yada yada yada. All that I can urrently deal with, but I've done something to my left ankle, right by the knobbly bone bit on the inside. Its a real pain when bearing weight, almost feels itchy on the inside?!?!

I know sprained ankles need rest etc but does anyone have any quick heal suggestions/pain releif?

Funny thing is it doesn't hurt at work in my stripper heels - I don't even notice it. But after work when I put on my flats and walk to the car, well it hurts so bad that I walk so slow I may as well be walking backwards!!!

Grrr... pain in the arse as there is nothing really for a definate cure other than rest I know. Plus I can't run anymore at the moment and my running is giving me the best health kick like ever.

    Not a happy bunny!!!!

I'm not a doctor but that doesn't sound like a sprain. Do you have health insurance? I would suggest icing it for now.

i would go to a dr. if you heal whatever you did incorrectly, the bone could have to be rebroken in order for things to to be lined up correctly. otherwise you'll end up having ankle problems your whole life.

i wouldnt be walking on it, either.

It's difficult to tell if it is truly a sprain because you didn't say how it happened. Typically with a sprain there is going to be some kind of event that you'd remember because its painful. Something like turning your ankle, tripping on something, etc. You could have possibly done it when you were drunk and not noticed but you'd have to be really wasted.

OK, assuming you do have a sprain, then of course rest is key. You can help relieve pain by icing, taking Motrin, wrapping you ankle, elevating it and soaking it in Epsom salts (or any combination). For the Epsom salts fill up a bucket with hot water and dissove the salts into it and then insert your ankle. Alternatively soak a small towel in the Epsom salted water and apply to your ankle. Keep reapplying for a half hour or so. I'd have my ankle wrapped with an Ace bandage too as the pressure will help.

maybe its not a sprain then? as nothing really happened and then it started hurting. its just built up gradually and got worse in the last 24hours!!

If it's the knobby bone on the inside of your ankle, it is the tibia. No matter how minorly you fracture that bit, you would not be able to walk on it. That is the weight bearing bone. If it was the outside knob of bone, that is the fibula and it is possible to fracture that and still walk on it.

Robert Jordan has good advice, though I would only do ice for the first 24 hours and switch to alternating heat and ice the second 24 hours.

Whenever I've sprained or fractured anything on my ankle or foot and couldnt for whatever reason stay off my feet...I did what boxing doc recommended, ice then heat alternating. I also took an anti-inflammatory like Aleve or Advil(Vicoprofen when I actually broke anything) to help with the swelling and pain. I also got Ace bandages or tape and wrapped the injury to keep everythign in place.
When my ankle is hurt, yes stripper heels feel better, even though they do more damage because your weight is shifted to the balls of your feet and you arent walking flat with as much pressure on your ankle.

Be careful honey...ankle injuries arent something to screw with. Stay off your feet as much as you possibly can and rest it.
