Okay, I just have to vent about Sallie Mae. First of all, you dial customer service and give your fucking social security number to someone in another country! I might as well just throw in a credit card application and my checking account info in there while I'm at it!THEN, the customer service rep tells me that I don't qualify for a deferrment (I'm unemployed) because mine is a private loan. FINE. I requested a forbearance. We can postpone your payments for 6 months........that requires a $100 fee.
I reply, "Well, I'm unemployed and have not a dime. I can't afford the $100 fee. Trust me, if I had $100 I'd just pay the loan because that's all that my payments are." He tells me he can transfer me to someone who can delay the fee and postpone my payments at the same time. GREAT! Right?.....WRONG! I hold for 15 mins and someone finally picks up....then....hangs up! GRRRRRRR!!!!!
I compose myself so I don't blow up at whomever answers my next call. A woman answers this time. I tell her the deal and she says (after I told her twice that I am unemployed) "Why don't you have the $100?" I tell her calmly, "Because as I said, I am unemployed." She replies, "Okay. What is the reason you are requesting the forbearance? Because the forbearance has a $100 fee." I let out a big sigh and can't even bring myself to explain it to her again. We sit there in silence for a moment and then she says she'll transfer me to someone who can help. She transfers me and a woman answers. She tells me she can't postpone my payments because my account is paid up to date; she has to wait until it's delinquent. The whole point of me calling NOW is because my payment isn't due yet! I don't want my loan to be delinquent! I'm trying to AVOID fucking up my credit. She then tells me that there will be a $100 fee.
I explain to her (calmly) why I was transferred to her and the SECOND I finish, we get disconnected!
Sallie Mae is ALWAYS like this! I swear, I wish I'd never taken out student loans. I could rip my hair out right now! :end rant:
