A bad idea, but no worse an idea than giving the government the money to distribute in the first place.

I just cant comprehend that being a real article from real people. I mean who (other than WalMart) think thats going to help us? Yea, WalMarts really going to lower all their prices so us Americans get the benefit.Theyre gonna buy american made? Bwahahaha.... Not to mention not every single middle class person shops at WalMart. I avoid the place like the plague.

^^^ it was satire ... but the point was well taken i.e. that the misnamed 'tax rebate' amounts to the US gov't borrowing money from the Japanese, handing it over to low and middle income Americans, and that money then being spent to purchase products from China (with WalMart and other bottom shelf retailers taking their usual 'cut').

It's not too late to repeal the rebate which wil do nothing to help the economy. If anything, it will make it worse by just adding to the National Debt. Wouldn't it be better to take that money and use it to support Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac in refinancing some bad mortgages ?
