Default Tip Manager For House Fee Discount?

At my club, if you miss a shift (even if you call-in), you are expected to do a make up day AND have a minimum $200 house fee on your next shift. I knew and accepted this when I called in for my Sunday shift.

Last night, my manager gave me a really big discount on my house fee. I didn't ask for him to "hook me up" and I was fully prepared to pay the enhanced fee without complaining. I mean, I missed the shift and I knew the consequences. Still, I feel like he was expecting a kick back from me before I walked out the door. I chatted with him for a few minutes and gave him many thanks and then left.

What do you other ladies do in this situation? It has been bothering me all night--I even had a nightmare about it!!

I would have tipped but you could always do it next time you see him.

I would have tipped him extra if it's already customary to tip your manager. You could also ask some of the girls at the club about it if you're friendly with any of them. It might be something he does just to get some extra cash.

I know you said you knew and accepted the expectation of paying for any nights you don't work but that is so completely illegal. I'm guessing you know that though so onto your actual question. If you feel like he did you a favor, the next time you see him I would throw him a tip of 10% to 15% of the amount he discounted for you. By doing that you are sure to stay in his good graces.

^^ wait, why are you saying that's illegal?

I've only ever worked in place that fine you for not coming in. Not 200 mind you, but there was a fine. Plus, if she was told about it ahead a time, they haven't done anything wrong?

It's not illegal. In our contract, they can charge us up to $200 each shift. Girls who keep a schedule and show up on time and so forth are given a discount. The $200 fee isn't a fine or backrent--they can already legally charge that per shift, but choose not to do so regularly. I think management uses it as a deterrent to keep girls from missing shifts.

To all who responded, thanks! I'm gonna toss my manager some cash with another thank you next time I see him.

Sounds like a good way for him to earn some extra income lol. I'm sure he doesn't profit directly from fines, ^^this way he does.

200 is a lot. If he really helped you out, I would tip him next time. I always take care of people who help me out with stuff like this.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal. My understanding is that it is not legit to impose fines on independent contractors. It happens all the time of course, but that doesn't make it legal. Just because someone puts it in a contract doesn't make it a legal thing to do.

$200 is f-ing ridiculous. Blatant exploitation.

I think by calling it a "fee" instead of a fine thats how they get around the legal issues

    No, it's not illegal.

Per my contract: "Proceeds from Minimum Dance Sales Are Owner's Property. Performer agrees to perform a minimum of 10 private dances during each performance date. This minimum may, at owner's discretion, be reduced based on scheduling concerns. The mandatory fee paid for these private dances, up to $200, shall be the exclusive property of the Owner."

The usual minimum for showing up on time is $60, and goes up $20 each hour, not to exceed $200. Basically, they could charge us $200 every night if they wanted to. In the case of a girl calling in or missing a shift, they usually do impose the $200 minimum.
