    Default Now I miss it!

I made up my mind a few weeks ago to stop dancing. I got a new job (car sales) and have been living on savings and I start my new job tomorrow, and I have to say, I think I actually miss stripping! I know when I left that I was saying to myself that I hated it, so what's up? Was I just burnt out and now I'm feeling better after my little vacation? I'm afraid if I go back to it, I'm going to start hating it again.

Anyone else felt like this? I danced 7 months before I stopped about 2-3 weeks ago.

I used to sell Ford trucks. I did not like it, we'd wait hours for a single up. The only trucks I sold while I was there were brand new ones, and you don't make much of a profit selling new. I hardly made any $$$ there. I wish you much better luck!

Honestly, I don't even know... I know my manager started being a real prick about making me stick to my shifts and not letting us leave for ANY reason (even if we paid) if he didn't have "enough girls", and I think I got lazy because I just stopped making very good money. I don't know... Looking back on it, I find myself going, "Why did I leave?"

I know I had my reasons AT THE TIME... Maybe I need to talk to my fiance and he can remind me why I was so wanting to leave. All the reasons I had just don't seem all that bad now...

It seems like a lot of us have a love/hate relationship going on with this job. Or maybe it's just me.

Grass is greener, eh? Or maybe "the money is greener." There's always going to be regret when it comes to leaving a job where the money is so easy and the schedule is so open. If there's another job better in those two respects, someone PM me and I'm on it!

Yup, Yup, Yup. I totally miss it. But thankfuly, I am abolutely in LOVE with my new career. And I now see that my brain was in desperate need of a jumpstart.
I started hating it when the money started to become inconsistent, and it became unfun.

Its like quitting a drug.. i think. (never did drugs)

No, it's not just you. I HATE dancing right now. But I love the freedom and (sometimes) good money. But it's been like feast or famine lately. Boo.

Ali Chin Chin, what contributed to the money becoming inconsistent? Was your club changing?

I know the feeling. When I started dancing I was doing it on and off for about 6 months while juggling another job and school. It was just nice to have the extra income. Then I put school on hold and danced like crazy, traveling a lot and what not. Now I'm back in LA to focus on school and I was going to quit dancing until I finished and moved out of LA since dancing around here is somewhat lame. I really missed school though and wasn't happy without feeling like I had a goal in sight. The past week I feel like I've been going through withdrawals. I miss it. I've put on a dress size since I stopped dancing a little more than a month ago and if it weren't for that I might just go out and try a place on a whim since I'm within about 10 min of a long strip of clubs, but extremely high mileage clubs.

I think that this is common; the love-hate feelings toward dancing, and the on again-off again relationship with it.

When I'm dancing regularly, it can drive me insane some nights. Somewhere between humoring some pretty ignorant customers, dealing with a manager who can't keep the rules consistent from night to night, listening to the shit-talking of my beloved co-workers, trying to avoid the dj who just wants to nail another dancer, the fluctuating tips...somewhere in all of this I fall out of love with my job, and I quit.

The first week (weekend especially), I'm thrilled. I feel liberated. Who needs that place? Hah!

Week two: Still doing well...starting to reference my job an awful lot, though...such as, "Ooo! This is such a great song to dance to! I feel like I'm in the club when I hear this. It's really good for floor work."

Week three: This is generally when I start dropping hints to El Significant Other that I might dance again someday.

Week four: Obsession. Thinking and talking about dancing constantly. By this time, the greasy-haired fat 50-year-old customers who refer to us collectively as "the whores" have magically transformed into "all right guys" in my mind. I've started to justify the many nights of no customers by remembering that one really good money night, and making bold claims like, "Well, it really all balances out."

Sometimes it takes longer for me to get there, but overall I think that a lot of us can relate to this feeling of missing it when we go on hiatus.

Well, I may not have a choice...

When I took this car sales job, I was told that the schedule was 8:30-3:30, M-Sa, with one day off during the week. My kids are in daycare from morning - 6, so that worked out great. Then I started on the car lot today (my first day!) and was told that the schedule is M-Sa 8:30-7:30 with NO days off! I can't do that, and that's NOT what I was told when I was hired! Then I was also told during the hiring process that my salary would be $2,000 a month for the first two months (or more, if I made more than that in commissions). Now I'm told that it's either commissions or minimum wage, whichever is greater. AND I have to sit through two weeks of "training" where I won't even be allowed any time on the floor at all, so basically, my first month will be minimum wage.

The sales manager was the one who told me all this. I talk to the general manager tomorrow about it. If he can give me the schedule and training salary I was PROMISED, then I'll stay at the dealership. If not, I get to dust off my stripper heels. I'll know more tomorrow...

I sold highline vehicles for a while. I stuck it out 3 months even though I hated it. The only thing I regret was not quitting sooner. (Well, not really. I DID learn a lot of sales skills that have helped me in other jobs, but car sales is a SHADY business and my managers ripped off a lot of people without my even knowing.)

If you stay it out, good for you. If go back to dancing, you'll discover newfound appreciation for the flexible schedule and the high earning potential that comes with stripping. Good luck whichever you decide to do.

    Soooooooooooooo true

I danced for 7 years. Have taken the last 6 months off. Working in a salon 6 weeks and put my 2 week in to go back to dancing. I really really miss it!

The truth is that I miss a LOT about dancing... I miss the flexible hours and the quick money (as in, no waiting for a paycheck). But I think I miss the way it made me feel most of all... I miss the feeling of being on stage and having the audience eating out of your hand. I miss the feeling of confidence and attitude that I got walking through the club in my domme outfit. I miss the arrogance and self-esteem I got from having all these guys drooling over me. I miss the fitness aspect of it and the beauty; I took a lot better care of myself when I was still dancing. I miss being sexy.

I really miss it too!!!!! I can SO relate to you guys.. at first, it's great not having to be around all the bitching girls and perverted customers.. But slowly, you notice, "Hey! I can't just go out and splurge on makeup or clothes without my bank account magically topping up the next week?! Shit!!!" Hahhaa......... I definitely wanna go back to dancing in October, I've gained weight not dancing, too and I agree, I took better care of my appearance when I was dancing.
I think I was burnt out and needed a few months off, which I have had now (well, 5 months)...... I think taking time off allows you to think of how you wanna be when you go back. That's what I'm doing now.. Like, I want to drink a lot less, gym it up in the day so I'm more toned and make more money, SAVE my money more!, not get caught up in a lot of the bullshit I was getting into when I left...
Anyways, best of luck to all of you thinking of going back. At least you tried another job, and now you know what you're missing...

All that and more. I never feel sexy anymore....

Did I mention my bank accounts are all empty until my husband gets paid tomorrow. I cant wait to go make my own good money again.

Hell yeah. All of my managers were cokeheads, I was aware of more cocaine usage there than I ever was dancing. And at some point, the owner was blackmailing the poor twenty-year-old receptionist, that's when I high-tailed it out of there.
