Default Ostara observing , whos with me ?

Its that time of year again and I am starting to plan my Ostara celebration . Just wondering who else is observing this day and HOW you are celebrating . I am not sure what I am doing just yet , I have a few ideas . This year I am doing the Ostara eve ritual for the first time ......candles , incense and a chant of course . I have already starting doing some house cleaning and some life cleaning getting things in order for Ostara ......I am really excited ! Lets share some ideas !!

One of the ideas I had was going for a nature walk with my two closest people , we have alot of nature trails and preserves around where I live . Also I have a seedling starter kit that I will be planting that day . Oh the other thing I have decided to do this year is celebrate Ostara on both days , the 20th and the 21st ....I couldnt make up my mind so why not

What exactly *is* Ostara? I've heard of it a few times but always from entirely unreliable sources! I don't mean to be rude, I genuinely am curious. Am I right in guessing some sort of Wiccan special time?

Well Wiccan too but not just for them . Ostara is a holiday that dates back before Christianity dominated . Basically its Easter which is pretty sad/funny . Ostara is the spring equinox , the celebration of more sunlight , animals and plants being "planted" if you will . The goddess becomes a virgin again at Candlemas (another celebration) and during Ostara she is with child , carries the child for nine month , giving birth on Yule ....sound familiar .......For me on Ostara I plant seeds , enjoy nature , clean my house and try to unclutter my life . It also a time to make plans for the year to come , set goals etc . Ostara means alot of different things to different people . Back before Christianity dominated March was the time when farmers would sow their seeds ( after the planting was done some would even have sex with their wives in the fields or they would have the whole family come out to the fields and jump as high as they could , in hopes that the plants would grow as high ) This time of year is the beginning of the year . The reason that we use Bunnies and eggs to celebrate Easter is because of Ostara . The name Ostara come from the name of a goddess (whose name escapes me at the moment ) and her sacred animal is the rabbit usually the white hare if I am not mistaken and the eggs are representative of offerings ......I am still learning myself .......so anyways that basically it . To me being pagan is honoring my ancestors who didnt get to be educated and make their own choices , I feel really really feel that this is the right way for me . Nature is my god I suppose .

I say techinally because it wont look like 12 and 12 outside but with out atmosphere etc it would .....You can google it , I am still learning all this stuff , you never stop learning

That is really fascinating. I used to do a lot of reading about Pagan traditions and beliefs and things, and then college got crazy and I never had time for anything but studying. But this is really inspiring me to get back into it. I really enjoyed it and felt a connection that was special. Perhaps that can be how I celebrate it!

    Thanks!

Ill be doing Ostara this year with my hubby and baby girl, maybe a friend or two who are pagan.

Just basic stuff-house cleansing, simple ritual, maybe a dance or two. If we get some kids with us we might do an easter egg hunt not sure yet.

Aww thats awesome !! Ya know alot of people think that pagans or wiccans chose their religions out of ignorance when actually its because we are educated on our chosen religion and like you said we feel a pull towards .

"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

This year I am probably just continuing to clean the house...we're renovating in preparation for the baby....so no having anyone over for festivities this year! I'll do a small ritual. It will be fun when baby is old enough to participate and we can do the egg hunt!

I still do all the traditional commercialized activities for every holiday because its fun , I even have a beautiful nativity scene that my mom hand made about 30yrs ago that we put out every Xmas .....its fun to enjoy holidays . That being said I just bought some Hello Kitty Easter egg painting kits and this will be my first year with my daughter being old enough to join in on the fun !!!

Actually it happens twice a year, at Ostara (spring equinox), and at Mabon (fall equinox). Twice a year.

I wonder if they also represent fertility in some ways...the hatching of new life or development of a seedling.

    They do represent fertility.

Yes the do represent fertility , I was having a brain freeze when I posted and couldnt get all the words out , lol . I found this good link that sums everything up I thought it might be helpful xo http://irelandsown.net/ostara.html

I am off to do some Ostara Eve prep before the baby wakes !! I ove the values of paganism also because the come from a time when people where simple and pure IMO , basic . Sometimes the simplest explanation is the only one for me .
