Default Ladies, how did you start?

The two most common "stories" I've heard (I know true at times; perhaps SS at other times) are -

    1) My friend was in the business and she convinced me to come in with her one day....and the rest is history.

    2) I was at a SC as a customer one night and the dancer pulled me onstage.......and the rest is history.

So, what am I missing? What are the more common truths?

Ok, now this is from a guy, so take it for what it is worth. I have never heard those before. I have heard "I wanted more money" reasons.Mr. Uncool

What the fuck is up with the quotation marks??? If you are so convinced that Dancers are habitually lying to you, why ask us for other "stories" (as you say)....

Of course, maybe in your area strippers are brought into the fold in either one of those two ways. I think it's pretty damn irrelevant.

Wanna know how I started? I went to a club, auditioned, and got hired. Not quite the glamorous story you were expecting but I bet you that is THE most common story that you will hear.

I was a bartender in a strip club and thought I could do that!

Hmmm I actually think my case is very cliched/common but it is neither of the two you metioned:

    3) I was piss-ass broke and despite a college education and jobsearching, couldn't find anything above low pay menial jobs, which just weren't 'cutting it' when it came to paying the bills. I'd promised myself in the past that if I ever reached financial "rock bottom," that I would start stripping for money to get myself out of such a financial hole. So reaching rock bottom 'pushed' me to grow some balls, march into a club, and actually audition for once instead of chickening out like usual......and the rest is history.

There's a lot of threads on here concerning how stripping has changed our lifestyles/financial lives. There's even a thread titled "When I was broke..." Although I'm sure the majority of dancers were financially better-off than I was when they first started dancing, most dancers were at one time poor or struggling.

I went out clubbing and drinking with some friends. I got trashed and decided I wanted to do the amatuer night at a strip club next door to the bar. I woke up the next morning with $32, a killer hang over and a new job.

    The knee-jerk hostility is interesting.

I actually BELIEVE these stories, I don't think I'm being lied to. "What the fuck is up with the quotation" marks is that other times I've posted something I believed, I have been condescended to with the attitude, "it's just SS, honey." The quotation marks are to alert you that I'm aware of that possibility.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.....jesus h fucking christ.

I found a crack rock on the ground and smoked it... then 5 feet ahead there was another so i went to it and smoked it, and five feet ahead there was another and another. I thought to myself, this is a lot like the movie E.T., but then i figured I was just high, so i shrugged it off. But when I came to i was on stage in a strip club, and everyone was calling me Tigerlily.

Did anyone else fall for this one?

Just kidding. I did it on a whim and then I was quickly hooked on the cash.

i was working 50 hrs a week for the school district and unable to pay my bills or go back to school.

i started stripping so i could go back to school. there was no other reasonable option. you can't work 50 hrs a week, pay for school, have TIME for school, -and- pay your bills.

    at least -i- couldn't.

of course... 90% of the time when i tell that customers they go

"nuh uh" or is "is that your "story" then?"

so............... i'm sure you couldn't possibly fathom that either.

I don't see why any customer wouldn't believe that....it's not exactly some sexy "I just love to be naked and this is the perfect job for that and if I wasn't here I'd just be in some regular club taking my clothes off!" story.

And I'm getting a little tired of being insulted. I can fathom most anything.

I've never asked a dancer how she got started. What's the point?

Ladies: do you get asked this question very often?

That is very similar to a friend's reason for starting to dance. She could make way more money as a dancer as oppossed to teaching cheerleading and a subject at a high school.

Interesting, I have never met a dancer that said that she did it because she liked being naked. In talking with girls, I can't remember one that wasn't about the money in some way. Its kinda like the rules, its about the money.
    • One was a school teacher and cheerleading instructor. She wanted more money.
    • One was the daughter of a preacher. She didn't have much education. She wanted more money.
    • One was a hair dresser that wanted more money.
    • One could make more money as a dancer than as a waitress.
    • One wanted more money and to party, but the money was key. Ugh.

Wanted money, flexible hours and to be my own boss and no one else's. And ftr I do enjoy being naked.

If there IS a reason for the hostile responses, I'd surmise that it's because this is a fairly common topic that one would usually find in SG or the Newbie forum. I don't see anything in your initial post that sets off my button, although I also don't know anyone who started dancing because of those two reasons you mentioned, which seem like fantasy fodder to me. Mehh.

Edited for reading comprehension: Once I figured out the WHY, I went in a few more times as a customer, talked to a dancer, got the low-down on how it went, and applied. She's a cool person but I wouldn't say "my friend works here so I started too."

I know, which is EXACTLY why I put "stories" in quotes.....which got me in trouble earlier in this thread. Like I said, damned if I do, damned if I don't.

I can see how the "I was a customer" story is a little fantasy-ish, but "I came in because my friend worked here" seems sooooo common, I don't see how it would seem weird to anyone. After all, that wouldn't be particular to a strip club -- I, personally, work at a company because I had friends I knew who worked there. I went in and applied at that [bar, restaurant, office, strip club] because I had friends who told me about it seems so perfectly normal to me, it seems odd that anyone would find it odd.

Its not different than the millionth douche asking, "so why do you do this, and don't tell me its about the money?"

WTF dudes? I got into it because I had already waitressed in a place before, and wasn't uncomfortable in the environment. But I would have been a zookeeper if it offered the same type of money in such a short period of time, with very flexible hours!

Whatever reason got a girl started, its about the money. Perhaps they are telling you these stories to feign some type of innocence, to relieve themselves of culpability. They want to look less like hustlers, because your type wants to believe he is liked and wanted. But you really aren't.

Yeah, you're completely missing the point. Read the thread title again.

I didn't ask whyyyyyyy (duh, for the money, why the fuck does anyone work?)

I asked howwwwwww (the particular circumstances of how you went and did it for the first time).

Okay, i'm one of the one's no one ever believes.

I actually always wanted to be one. When I was 14 I asked my mom what she would think if I stripped when I got older. She gave me her whole, the body is beautiful and if you can make money at it then it's a good thing.

It took till I was twenty, (marriage and military first, ugh) till I started waitressing at a SC. And I only waitressed because I really didn't think I was pretty enough to dance.

After about a month, I realized I was being stupid I got my happy ass on stage.

My mom's opinion had changed though. (She's okay with it now, well over a year later.)

The money was an extra bonus... so the rest is history I guess.

Thanks for clearing that up for me honey. Us 'tupid strippers can't "read between the lines" or nuttin.

All girls start pretty much the same way you get any job. You fill out paperwork and talk to someone in charge.

So if you so clearly understood the original question, why were your responses so off topic? Tourette's?
