Is all the buzz I hear about this place true? Is it really really good?better than Ruth Chris?

I've been to the one on Walnut Street in Philadelphia and it was super expensive and not as great as everyone talked it up. I've bad better else where. Just my opinion though.
Hmm I wanna know too? I love Ruth's Chris

Ruth's Chris is fucking awesome

In my honest opinion, there is definitely better food to be had out there than either of these BUT...
for sheer ambience and the "WOW" factor, Morton's is to die for. It's one of those places where you get to say you went to Morton's and people go ooh and aah.

I haven't tried Morton's or Ruth's Chris.
I do like Outback and Strip House ( the latter, for obvious reasons).
I understand everything is a la carte which means if you order a steak that's what you get a steak. If you want a side item, salad, soup, etc. it's extra for that. I have heard it is decent though but overrated. I heard Ruth Chris's was really good.

If you're a value minded person like myself, there's no way in hell you're going to enjoy either Mortons or RC (its actually Ruth's Chris, not Ruth Chris's) unless its a really special occasion like a 25th wedding anniversary or your cancer going into remission. A lot of the appeal of these joints is to brag to your friends that you spent $8 on au gratin potatoes with your $50 steak.
Yes, I hear both the quality and the service at both places is excellent, but you have to be the kind of person who appreciates that sort of thing to actually enjoy it. There's a lot of hype and quality perception that goes into the minds of people who eat at these joints.
I would bet if you served the exact same stuff these places were offering but only charged one third the price, the diners would be complaining that the food wasn't as up to snuff. They did a recent study on expensive wine versus cheap wine (and expensive wine that was disguised as cheap wine), and its safe to say the same theory applies here, or to any high end good.

Just something to think about next time you gals shop at Lush.

I have been to great ones (Dallas) and shitty ones (Cincinnati), so I guess it depends on which one you're going to. Looks like you're in Dallas, where there is insane steakhouse competition, so you're in good shape - but I would check out N9ne

i like Morton's more than Ruth's Chris. Ruth's is more rigid in their menus but taste is about the same imho. Morton's slightly higher "scale" but they're both a bit uppity anyways. i don't care too much for ambience, food and service are the only criteria i'm interested in.
the various Palms are more flash than taste. i still really wasn't as impressed although they had a larger selection.
Peter Luger's is probably a little tastier than any of those but it's only in NY.
I've been to a few around the country and have had some pretty damn good meals at them. I personally think they're a bit better than Ruth's Chris.
I usually like to avoid chains to experience individual restaurants in cities, but like most chains (even higher-end ones) the standard is usually the same in most, it seems.
My personal favorite nice chain in The Oceanaire seafood restaurants. I've been to the ones in Indianapolis and Seattle and had fantastic meals at both.

I dont care about the "oohs" and "aahs" at all . I love good food and I love good service . I hate if I have to wait to get my glassed refilled or anything . I have never found a steak to be just as good in a "lower" scale restuarant or whatever.Anyways So Morton's is about the same? Do the steaks come sizziling when they arrive?
I have never been to RCs but I have been to Morton's and it was very very good. I don't recall my steak sizzling but as I order VERY rare, I wasn't going for sizzle anyways![]()

When I went to Morton's, it was really good. I didn't pay for it, though. If I had to, I'd go somewhere else and pocket the difference. I mean, I think the baked potato was $8-9. I didn't order it. You can't get a baked potato that puts $9 of taste in my mouth.
The entree was quite wonderful. I've blocked on the price. I just remember it was high.
It's good. I'd put it on par with Ruth's Chris and The Palm, but it's not as good as independent steakhouses that I've been to like Charley's, Bern's, The Chop House, and some others.
I'd also say it's not as good as Shula's.

Ruth's Chris is mighty. Never had a bad meal there, and I've been to about... 7 different ones. (BTW, the Porterhouse for two, medium-rare, extra butter = UBER-WIN)
Morton's is a bit pricier and the service isn't as good, IMO... but I wouldn't turn down Morton's if it was my only choice in the city. Their filets are super-duper. =)
Now, Smith & Wollensky... THAT was an epic steak. Believe that.

"In life, we DO a lot in order to accomplish mundane trivial things before we die, but it is in death and after death in memories that we will truly live, because it is in the level of care and detail that a person paints of us with stories from their memories and experiences with us that give us meaning."
Went to both Morton's and Ruth's Chris in SF. Definitely prefer Morton's for food, service and ambiance.
Between the two, though in SF, I'd take Harris' Steakhouse. For what it's worth.

I've been to Ruth's Chris in a couple of different cities (Phoenix and Austin), and it was excellent both times. Never been to Morton's but would like to try sometime. I also really like Fleming's, which is an upscale chain that is owned by Outback. They are also a la carte, with superb filet mignon. If you're in Phoenix, I hear the absolute best steak in town is Donovan's, but haven't yet had the pleasure.
A couple of year's ago I gave my ATF a $150 birthday gift card to Fleming's for her and her BF to have dinner, and she absolutely LOVED it (he did too, the lucky bastard...., wish it could have been with me!)
That place is awesome, for the ambience alone. We went to a small chain the other day, Eddie V's, and their carpetbagger steak was amazing as always.
Doc...I don't think a $6 Lush bath bomb is that much of a splurge. A stupid fucking BMW that is always in the shop is (fumes at self)![]()

I went to the one in Newport Beach, CA at Fashion Island. Very much a pinky out crowd! The service was impeccable. My bf and I usually hit up a fancy restaurant instead of buying each other xmas gifts and this is usually our choice. Last time, between the two of us two filets, a cheese/meat platter, side of mac and cheese, and a few glasses of wine it came to about $120 plus tip. Usually I'm a cheapskate and balk at luxury goods but this was worth it and definitely something I'd recommend to everyone at least once.
