I also totally understand the release you're talking about.

Yay, you get it!
Like I really respect the Hasidic Jews, but I totally couldn't do it. But man, they always seem like such great wonderful people, I kinda wish I could! So Progressive Judaism seems the right path for me.
EEEE... I think I'm gonna do it now. Now that not one but two Jewish people on this site said it shouldn't be a problem at all... I think I'm gonna. I e-mailed a Rabbi today! ^-^

Just one warning about jewish guys...i swear they are such big mommas boys, lol. be warned
i think it's awesome when someone finds something that seems to fit with them so well :-D

I'd rather have a guy love and care about the woman who raised him than call her names behind her back. At least they appreciate the hard work it took to be with them! Hahaha.
Oh dear... I wonder if I'll meet someone at Shabbat next week (gonna go gonna go).

I would guess to say the right reason to convert is truth. I never saw Religion as something you join like a country club because you like its benefits. You choose a religion because you believe it to be truth. No?

Aint THAT the truth! My first 2 boyfriends were Jewish and they had the steryotypical Jewish moms...wanted their sons to be Dr's...babied the boys(but not so much the girls...though my one bf's sister was the poster child for JAP)...hated me..the shiksa girlfriend..the whole 9 yards.
Congrats to you Lysondra for finding something that brings you peace.

^ Yeah, that IS the other side of the coin. I agree with you. That's where my internal struggle is. You can't really just 'practice Judaism' though, you kinda need to convert to have the structure. So me not believing in God and converting DOES seem weird.
I do like a religion because of everything it gives me and how it makes me feel.. even if I don't believe in the religion part of it.
Aaaand back to my nervousness. Hahaha.

Ah got it. I admit, I was being mentally lazy and skimmed over some of the details in the posts. My excuse, however lame, is that it is Friday and I have been focusing all week and am now operating on auto pilot. I know it is not a great excuse, but it's mine, and I'm sticking to it![]()

I tend to think that's a question with no real, single answer. You need to find the right answer for you. I don't think it's necessarily always 'faking it' to join a religion for reasons other than religious ones, though it might be in some cases. If you're doing this just for yourself rather than for another person or an external reason, it's more likely to be a good choice than if you're not.
P.S.- I always wanted to be a Catholic, since I find their rituals deeply comforting, but I just can't bring myself to believe either in god or the actual religion, so that's kept me from it. I also vehemently dislike the political positions or the Catholic Church, and find their involvement in politics per se to be distasteful and inappropriate. So, for me the fact that rituals resonate was indeed the wrong reason to join a religion, but it might not be for you- ritual and spirituality might be more profound things to you than they are to me. You need to examine yourself, and though you can ask for the opinions of others in order to more fully make that examination, the guiding view should be your own.

-I dislike everything about any organized religion. I don't need a crutch to walk. I pray to myself, and I rock. Blind faith is an ugly thing. Ask me about my Moby Dick theory sometime.
However. If what you're doing is making you happy and it's not hurting anyone else--go for it.
