    Default Skin care

I've been using a toner after cleaning my face for as long as I can remember. Is it even necessary?

    cleanse, tone, moisturize, spot treatment...

what does everyone else with acne prone skin do?

toning is very important. this site explains a lot
    http://beautytips.ygoy.com/skincare/toners.php

i would do spot treatment before moisturizing though. moisturizing should be the final step.

I use professional products on my face but I cleanse with a cleanser made for oily skin, use a toner with no alcohol (alcohol toner combined with the detergents in my cleanser would be too harsh for most skin), use benzoyl peroxide lotion on my acne, wait a few minutes and use a moisturizer for oily skin. Where is your acne? Acne on the chin is from your hormones and if you have even acne on your lower cheeks, it's from your diet.

    Thanks for the link.

I have acne (usually small pimples) everywhere, but mainly on the sides of my face and forehead.

I thought it would make more sense to spot treat last, because if you put lotion over the treatment your just spreading it around, not if it dries first though I guess.

I read somewhere that toning isn't necessary, but it seems to work for me.

I think moisturizer is highly important to keep your skin looking young (at least that's what I was taught to massage your face with moisturizer for awhile). Just use an oil free moisturizer.

I think Proactiv works wonders for acne, BUT it stops working after 10 months.

I also think all natural Witch Hazel is a really great toner! I have VERY oily skin and it helps a lot with that.

I use Cetaphil for my face wash, a gentle buffing pad to get all the dead skin off, witch hazel, the stuff from here for my acne (www.acne.org), a really light oil-free moisturizer with SPF only in the morning, and twice a week I use a clay mask.

At the age of 25 I am finally enjoying clear skin for the first time in my life !

I also use a pore extractor a couple times a week. It helps with all the nasty black and white heads...yuck!

    Is witch hazel super drying?

I've noticed that as I've cut back on super drying products my oily face has actually been in better shape as it has stopped trying to produce more oil to compensate.

I used to use it a long time ago until I was told how much alcohol was in it. I think all packaged witch hazel has alcohol in it, but some have it more than others I'm sure and what I used had a significant amount. My skin didn't get worse from it but it didn't impove any either. That stuff works great as an anti-itch for bug bites though!!

I think the witchhazel I use has about 14% alcohol and the rest is all witchhazel. It is just a cheapie brand I buy at wal-mart. It isn't too drying for me. It just helps so I don't get all shiny looking through out the day. If I don't use it I have to use 3-4 of those oil blotting sheets per day. If I do use it I only need maybe one a day if that. I've tried other toners and they have all been too harsh for my skin.

If you have combination skin which means your skin is only oily in the T-zone area, the nose, chin and forehead then a toner is essential. The toner will help balance your skin so the oils are distributed more evenly throughout your skin as opposed to being heavy in one or two areas.

If what you have is working for you now then I wouldn't suggest changing it.

Yeah it's not working though.. I just picked up a new moisturizer because I think my previous one was making me breakout.. so hopefully that helps.

I use clean & clear morning burst face wash, acne clearing toner (might be too harsh) purpose moisturizer and spot treatment. My skin never seems to get clear no matter what I do though. Maybe my skin will start to clear up when I turn 30.

I second that Cetaphil face wash. I use it and it keeps my skin pretty clear.
