    Default Trimming my own hair

How would I go about doing this? My hair is about to the middle of my back, fine, and layered. I don't really care about the layers, but I'd like to do the ends. I'm growing it out, so I only want to cut off the bare minimum of split ends. How would I go about trimming the ends evenly? Any tip or tricks to make it easier? Oh, and my hair is pretty straight, if that makes a difference.

Layers would be easier to trim IMO. I know theres a few girls here that may have advice. I know I would never attempt to cut a straight line on my own hair. That would turn out all bad. I can barely cut a perfectly straight line on customers...

    How do you trim layers?

Depends on how the layers were cut. You hold 1" sections hair vertical until you see a straight line and you cut it. Im sure you can find something if you google it. Oh just make sure you drop the bottom couple inches or youll cut off length.

Hmm. That sounds easy enough. And now that I think about it, it DOES sound easier to cut layers.

cant you also do the pony tail trick. Like flip your wet hair over and brush it so its all straight and then cut it in a straight line, flip it back over and you have layers.

It worked well enough for me in a pinch.

That website is awsome, cherry_sin! Thanks. I don't know if I feel confident or co-ordinated enough to try it, but I might...I hate hair dressers. They can never understand a simple trim. Always wanting to layer my hair or chop too much off. They don't seem to believe that a girl knows her own hair better than they do.

If I get up the nerve and try it, I'll post a pic of the results. Does anyone know what kind of scissors to use?

Id recommend buying shears made for hair. Theyre sharper and youll get a much more even cut. Whatever you use make sure theyre sharp.

i've trimmed my hair before, and i have long long hair almost to my butt. i trimmed it becuz of a hairdresser hacking my hair off and i was traumatized to go get my hair cut. it actually worked out perfectly. i pulled half of it toward the front of my chest and held the ends in a straight row and trimmmed, then did the other side. it was really straight. oh and i did it with real hair sheers, like audreyleigh was saying too, it makes a difference. good luck!

I use that site, myself. My hair's SUPER long and I don't trust hairdressers. They always take off too much.

Would you guys recommend I trim my hair wet or dry? And thanks for the suggestions. My bf is really into long hair, and anyone fucking up my program (like taking off too much) would probably make me cry. I've even walked out of a salon before getting in the chair because I got a bad vibe!

I always do mine dry, although I don't know if that's recommended because there's probably a reason why salons only seem to cut hair once it's been wetted. Just remember, your hair is longer when it's wet so when it dries, it'll look shorter than it did when it was wet. Don't cut too much off when it's wet. I used to mess my bangs up with that a lot when I was younger.

I really need to learn how to trim my own hair, too. ...And ditto on not trusting hairdressers with my SUPER long hair. I always have to talk to them like they're kindergarteners so as to make sure they don't hack too much off.
