Default Okay "Oldsters"-how do you keep going physically?

I'd like to hear from the 10 year plus-ers. Or at least the over-30s (preferably on the older end, please!), since we know you all rock.

Specifically, what keeps you going, physically for the long term? Yoga? Diet? Attitude? Not just what keeps you hot, but what keeps you from pain all the time (b/c I have pain a lot now!), keeps you from injury in a long term physical job, etc?

Well i'm 36 and have arthritis (osteoarthritis) and have had it for some time now.
I just stay physically active. Lots of walking and weights... and I try and eat well.
Beyond that i'm just stubborn to get old a creaky.

I'll be 35 this year. I try to eat well, work out to stay active and limber esp when I am not working and get as much sleep as I can. I"m an insomniac and I see a HUGE difference in my mental and physical health when I dont sleep. As for pain..hard to say. I"m always in pain from pancreatitis, a really bad back and chronic migraines. But I"ve always been like that, so I dont really know what it feels like to NOT be in pain. I"m used to it.

I take Rx painkillers almost every day to ward off the worst of my attacks and I will likely have to do so for the rest of my life. But obviously this isnt something I recommend if you dont have to.

I'm not old, LOL! But to answer your questions I have had to start taking better over all care of both my mind and my body. This means not staying out 'till the wee hours like I did in my early 20's. Going out to party these days means a few drinks (by that I mean no more than 3 or 4) and be in bed by 3 am. It’s also a rare thing for me. A few times a year at most. I do enjoy a glass of wine several times a week though.

I have started to pay lots of attention to my diet. Less salt, sugar and processed foods in general. More organics. Tons of water and green tea.

I have also been quite active but now I do less intense (joint wise) workouts. No more pounding of my knees, ankles and back. Instead I focus on working my core and flexibility with regular pole work thrown in for weight resistance training and ofcourse for fun

Working out in ways that relieve stress most effectively. Think positive!

I have no idea, but feel the same physically as I have my whole life. I imagine some of the following are reasons. Im 37, 38 in oct.

*I walk or ride a bicycle, have never learnt to drive - I walk faster than some people jog.
*I have always had a lot of healthy food in my diet. Ive never eaten McDonalds or fast food except very occasional KFC.
*I believe that traditionally people were physically fit and were still able to run and climb and jump well into their senior years (my grandparents and other family members were like this up until their 80s)
*Healthy attitude - emotions and attitude play a huge part n your physical health. Check out Louise Hay for some basics
*Ive always tried to make sure Im surrounded by good and funny people and that I think nicely and positively and have pleasant fun things to do.
*Avoiding chemicals as much as possible - includes prescription medicines and skin care products. I have had my fair share of medicines, Im not saying i havent had any, and of course Ive done a bit of drug experimentation but Ive kept both as minimal as possible.

This is all gold. I think I am on the right path to oldster stripperness, hopefully with less pain! I have almost no stamina anymore either. Okay, more walking, less negativity to start. I need to move!

I'm 39, I do a full body workout three or four times a week with a minimum 30 minutes of cardio. I eat a pretty healthy diet but I'm not real strict about it, if I want recees cup I'll have one. I do take glucosemane (sp) to help with some knee pains I get.

I'm 32 (and a half lol) and luckily haven't had any problems other than low estrogen. I take an herbal estrogen supplement for that which has helped emensly with my cycles. I try to work out at least 5 days a week. I take a multi vitamin with iron, CLA, CoQ10 and drink lots of water and try to keep my diet decent. I haven't really had any pain or other ailments so far. But I think what keeps me going is keeping a positive outlook on life in general. I think you can mentally control your energy levels, etc. Don't look at old people and say "I don't want to be like that", look at them and say "I refuse to be like that".

    I'm 44 in April.

    I don't smoke.
I hardly ever drink and when I do it's a two glasses of wine limit.
I don't do drugs, ever. Those days are far behind me.
    I do Cardio everyday.
    I workout twice a week.
    Regular visits to the doctor.
I know my families health history and use it to my advantage.
I eat healthy, no junk food, no fried food, and nothing that has a shelf life longer than how old I am.

I think because I am just a crazy athlete is what keeps me going. I'll be 37 later on this year.

Pain: Well, even when I stated at 23, I had pain if I worked too long and didn't get enough sleep. I get occasionally now and ice and icy hot myself accordingly. I took take glycosamine, when I can remember to buy it.

I started snowboarding 8 years ago. I'm crazy fast! I pass up middle school peeps! I will go to the highest Mt. peak of any resort I have been to and race people down. I fall a lot! (I should probably start wearing a helmut )

I try to work out six days a week, changing my workouts according to how I feel on any given day. If I don't feel too energetic, i don't push it.

Until last Jan., I worked in a club for 3 years, 10 months that was almost stage only. I must have done as many as 15, two full song, stage sets during a 4 to 5 hour shift.

And guess what? It wasn't really the pain, it was the claustophia, lack of money and small club cattiness that made me quit. It had the most awesome pole/bar set up. Horizontal, vertical and I used them all. That is the only thing I miss about that club.

But after working there, I barely break a sweat working anywhere else.

I take a lot supplements, eat well, but def not strict, drink moderately, only do drugs that are prescribed to me and try to get as much sleep as possible. And I s-t-r-e-t-c-h. I have been doing that since the very beginning.

And sunscreen, on my face religiously since I was 23.

This is the most important thing of all. I'm turning 40 this summer and I can't tell you how many times that's been met with an "Ohhhhhh, and how do you feel about that?" sad faced response. It's amazing how much weight is put on age as a number and you have to have a lot of resolve to keep enjoying life as you were, and not take that weight on to yourself.

Yoga has been the biggest factor in my stripper longevity. I've done it for as long as I've danced. Its been beneficial not only for strength, balance, and flexibity, but also for peace of mind. It helps me take internal chaos and anxiety and turn it into fuel.

All my life I've had a strange combination of a weak constitution and a lot of inner fire. I have huge ambitions but my little system seems to fry easily. As a result I've had to be very calculating and methodical about stripping. I'm well aware of how awesome it would be to make x amount of money 6 nights a week, but that effort has always been met with swollen glands, pulled neck muscle, lost voice, etc. Instead of giving up on dreams I've had to determine how many nights I can realistically work, how late, what I have to do the next day, and plan accordingly.

Another factor, for me, in being a successful oldster stripper has been learning how much I could cut out without having it affect my money. When I was younger I did a lot of pole stuff and crazy moves that I've since cut out entirely. I started noticing what gave the most wear and tear and seeing if I could do without it. At this rate, I should just be standing in the center of the stage radiating sexual energy by the end of my career!

I eat well but not strict. Just the obvious, veggies as much as possible, wheat instead of white. Never pass up a homemade cupcake if it's available. If you eat like crap too long, stop doing it.

I exercise every day, even if it's just a long walk. Weights twice a week, yoga, NIA, swimming, whichever is right for the day.

My mom has MS and even though she's always in pain she's never, ever, had a "poor me" attitude. I realize how lucky I am to have a body that can dance and I want to enjoy every last bit of it. Every morning after I strip I feel achy/fatigued/frazzled, but I also feel energized that I've still "got it" and proud that I'm working toward a dream.

Oh, and God bless the smoking ban. I really don't think I could be dancing anymore if it weren't for that.

    I'm 97, give or take a century.

    Don't smoke.
    Play field sports.
    Other than that, moderation........
Work out when I can. If the schedule allows six times a week or one time a week, that's what I do.
Drink in moderation, and stay away from excess, unless I just really have to.
Keep a good attitude. That doesn't necessarily mean positive. Just a good attitude, that if I keep at it, I can make it work, and don't sweat the small stuff.
    Don't get angry.
    Regular sex.
Some thrill seeking now and then.
Eat well, moderate portions, scaled back on treats. You know, make them a .... treat.
If I can walk there, I walk, and walk fast.
It's usually better to do something than watch TV. Moderation.

    Moderation.

I take an anti-oxidant product every morning - I call it my purple coffee. Anti-oxidants help the body to heal itself... and there is a noticable difference between when I am taking it, and if I run out before I get more.
