Default another med thread just started celexa.

im on day 4, and yesterday had horrible anxiety and my arms felt like they had electricity off and on when i was in bed and i had racing thoughts and nausea. they say it takes 2 weeks to get that shit over with as far as negative starting effects.

please tell me itll get better, becuase right now i just want to stop taking it...even the ativan isnt helping the anxiety.

Sorry but I have to bump this since I'm now taking Celexa as well.

i.breathe: I'm so sorry that you were having such intense issues wiht this medication. Did you continue taking it? I'm on day 6 (40mg) and I haven't had any side effects. I was taking Lexepro. I only stopped taking that cause it was to damn expensive!

Isnt Celexa almost the same thing as Lexapro, but cheaper CK? How many mgs. are you taking of Celexa.

Its great that you are not having any side effects.

I used to take 40 mgs of Lex then I started to only take 20mgs and started getting horrible headaches.

Celexa is suppose to be the one with the least amount of side effects that actually effect people too.

Yes. I'm taking the generic version of Celexa. My Lexapro was like $98 at Walmart. I called walgreens and it was $113. She recommended the Celexa to me, since it is almost the same. At Walgreens, the Celexa is now $34.

I was reading an older thread, and learned that this Celexa is on the Walmart $4 list. So now I'm gonna seek that out!

I'm taking 40mgs of Celexa. I was on 40mgs of Lexapro. I get terrible headaches if I go days without taking my meds (withdrawls if I can't buy in time)

^^Yes it is on the Walmart list! That's where I get it. I had a headache for the firt two weeks, then that went away. I do feel like a cloud has been lifted, but definitely not all the way and I have no more motivation than ever.

I was on Celexa a while back. Didn't notice any horrible side effects to begin with, but I switched to other meds later anyways. Have you tried Wellbutrin? Neither Celexa or Zoloft did it for me, but Wellbutrin has been great, especially with low side effects (... it's less likely to fuck up your libido!).

I know one of the side effects is drymouth. I haven't been having dry mouth, but I'm licking my lips alot. And that is just not cute.

Did anyone experience weightgain with Celexa? I seem to have more of a sweettooth than normal.

I think I lost a few pounds initially from a lack of appetite but then gained it all back.

Whether or not you get side effects depends a *lot* on whether the med you're taking is actually right for your brain chemistry. Like Toki above I'm on Wellbutrin (I feel a little goofy for talking about it in all these other antidep threads, but at the same time I feel like the more information that gets out there, the better.)

...It's the best thing to try if SSRIs don't work or cause problems, as it deals with other neurotransmitters, also has a really quick induction time so is pretty painless to try out, as all it takes is a week to find out if it's working, sometimes less (though about a month to stabilize.) Short half-life. Like, if I skip a day, I find myself having anxious thoughts and irritation the same way I did before I started, but as soon as I take it the next day I'm fine.

The only big caution about it is if you're seizure-prone or have preexisting liver problems.

I've been taking Celexa for at least a couple of years now and love it. I'm sorry about your mishaps. Why not try the entire 2 week stretch and see afterwards if it works for you? I have tried them all as well, and Celexa works best for me. Feel free to ask me any questions, doll.

I took celexa about 2 years ago.

I've taken almost EVERY drug out there for depression/anxiety(and all the other ones).

Celexa was probably the WORST drug experience I've ever had. Serious. I have overdosed on oxycontin, watched myself turn blue, and lost control of my fucking limbs -but all that was mildly enjoyable compared to celexa.

I started to have a panic attack about 20 minutes after taking it. I became paranoid and developed a migraine, and just lay on the living room rug crying in the middle of family movie night.

It felt a lot like I was coming down from a 3 day meth binge.

I never usually have problems with meds either.

I didn't see the ativan part my first read.

I was put on ativan after I was hospitalized during an anxiety attack, and didn't notice any difference. I suspected they had given me a placebo actually.

    oh yeah- FEEL BETTER!

I can totally sympathize with you. Don't give up. You will eventually find a drug/combination that will help you (even if it's only subtle).

Have you tried therapy? I know it's not available to lots of people, but I know I always feel better when I'm seeing one. Just being more aware of triggers and emotions can be really helpful. If you don't already keep a journal specifically for your moods, that might be helpful. It's a good way of identifying underlying causes that may be preventable.

^ I don't want to pry at all. I'm having one of those GAD days so I caved in and took a cymbalta. Are you seeking a family DR or a psychologist? I was going to family DR and she took my xanax down to an 1/8 of what I had been on for NO reason. IT was a mistake. But it's a racket that I'm not going to get into. Anyways, I think it will be just easier to see someone that specializes in mental health. I dunno. I believe that benzo's are my actual answer.

thats a huge giant story on its own. i went to a sliding scale mental health place and it took 3 months to get to see a psych....and the day of my appointment he canceled and i couldnt get back in for another month. so yes family doctor. im weaning myself off of the klonopin. i no longer feel a need for these drugs in my life.

by the way, klonopin is a benzo.

^ Yeah that's kinda where I'm at too. I'm tapering off of xanax not by choice but by a flub. However, honestly my anxiety is so fucking bad going without meds is an option but I'll do exactly what I'm doing now..which is NOTHING. I'm far too uptight and depressed to leave. I had a better response to taking xanax when I felt a panic attack.

I hate Americas health care system.
