Drug them... Just kidding... How old are they?
Flying with kids? Best advice I have is, DON'T.

I HAVE to go home for easter and the past 5 times i made that 20 hour trip I drove. Im gettin too old and would like to fly this time. if the prices are right, im doing that. trying to schedule it for evening/naptime so they sleep...they travel well regardless.
ahrie is 4 azaia is 16months
If you have a baby, bring a pacifier to help with the ears popping. For older children have them yawn a lot to clear ears.
Red eye flights are best for the kiddos cuz of the dim lights.

gum or juice boxes for the 4 year old. pacifier/bottle for the baby. Maybe bring some Benadryl too, little kids just seem to develop ear ailments at the most inopportune times. Also snacks like apple slices, cheese cubes, etc.
I'd also bring crayons, coloring books and a dvd player (unless you're on jet blue). If there's any time to encourage babysitting by the boob tube, it's while on the plane.![]()

I know on international flights there are a row of seats with bassinets. Reserve/buy as early as possible to reserve these seats. I assume domestic flights have these also.
Shouldn't be too bad. Get some new small toys for the older kid.
I flew from Boston to Phoenix with a 6 year old, 5 year old, 3 year old, and 10 month old.. just myself- no other adults to help. The girls ages 6, 5, and 3 all sat on one side of the aisle and my baby was on my lap the whole time. We were on Jet Blue so the girls just watched TV- NO issues at all.. they had snacks and took a potty break- that was the most eventful thing. My baby fussed VERY little and was easy to console.. plus we had major turbulence that kinda rocked him and calmed him down lol.
Maybe I was just lucky- but my experience gives some hope that it's not always a bad experience and don't be afraid to fly with kids. Just be prepared with things to keep them busy and the advice others gave about chewing gum is good.. though I dont remember my girls complaining of ears popping.. but just in case.
Good luck![]()

hahaha yeah right! We've already lost our free meals and hand job service, now some airlines are taking away our free 2nd checked bag, hell no we don't have bassinets on board!
That sounds like a lovely feature though. I guess it's not really warranted on shorter flights.
Ditto on the DVD player. My aunt and uncle have a lovely, creative, well-behaved four-year-old who has no access to TV. They're raising her in a completely TV-free home, no movies, no Sesame Street, nothing. Recently they all went to China to adopt her little sister, and had to fly several small flights plus the big hop from Boston to Hong Kong and back. How'd they get her through it? Portable DVD player. Even they figured that flight was the time for some video doping! Gotta say I agree, too... on the no-TV and on the airplane exception!

Great ideas here.
BEFORE THE FLIGHT
Find a place in the airport that is quieter and let your kids walk around, look at the planes, get a little exercise. Make sure you do this in an area where there are not many people around so you do not disturb anyone.
Let your kids know that misbehavior on the plane will not be tolerated and time-outs will be given. Promise them a small reward for good behavior and give them the reward when the flight is over.
DURING THE FLIGHT
Give the 4 year old gum/juice box when the plane is taking off. Have her yawn a lot too. Give the baby a bottle during takeoff.
Also bring along some story books too. Make sure your kids are quietly entertained as soon as you get on the plane. This way you prevent them from having meltdowns.
Perhaps take them for a walk up and down the aisles so they don't get too antsy.
If you can schedule the flight during a time when they may be asleep, I'd do it.
If your kid has a meltdown...I've had to take my kid to the bathroom for a time-out. This way your child is not disturbing anyone. I hate bathrooms on airplanes but it is the only place I can safely sit with my kid while he has a time-out. Come out of the bathroom after she calms down.
Overall, you just have to stay on top of it and make sure they don't get bored. A DVD player is great. I have one for my kid, and it will allow for a more relaxing flight for all yo guys.
^ PLEASE take your kid(s) to the bathroom if they're being loud!
Ach. They really should have seperate 'family flights'. Kids on planes is just awful for all. And don't fly a redeye with kids, because your fellow passengers may actually NEED to sleep.
Feature costumes for sale!

yes agreed. It's terrible being trapped with other people's badly behaved kids on a plane.
There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.
DO the best you can, everyone was a child at one point and if you get tired, bored, impatient as an adult imagen a child.
New games and toys help a ton.
Here is a website with good advice
Give them a pacifier. Sucking on something or chewing gum helps the ear popping.

If you really must fly with babies or small children I suggest traveling during hours when they will need to sleep. Easier on you, them and all the others on that plane.
I have to say..on one of my most recent flights(from LA to Charlotte NC) there was an infant in the row of seats in front of me. The baby was SCREAMING his head off. I was irritated, but not mad because the parents were doing everything they could to calm the poor thing down. Then the mom did the most amazing thing I've ever seen...she pinched off the babys nose and quickly blew into his mouth(like a fast mouth-to-mouth). I dont know if she just shocked him or if that popped the babys ears...but he shook his head, gave her a "Mom..what the HELL" look and then started giggling while she tickled him. About 10 minutes later he fell fast asleep and stayed out cold for the rest of the flight.
I was amazed!! That was some serious mom-ing!!
We used to blow a puff of air into my brothers' faces to make them stop crying. Didn't always work, but it did more often than not. I think it just startles them and they forget what they were crying about.

Probably really obvious but make sure to try to explain the ear thing with your older child, obviously don't make it seem scary but give her a hint that somethings gonna happen.
I say this because I've been on a few flights where people with a few kids I guess forgot to tell the youngest one what was coming and they freaked. Hell I would to if my head started feeling pressure.
