Great story and thread, Pooka--it is nice to be reminded that the news we see is really the unusual, and that the majority of people mean well. It is also great to see Philly's beautiful addition--what great pictures! So that's how my day is going--you fellow SWrs have made my day!

I had a great day teaching 8th grade science. I'm in a class where the teacher quit in the middle of the year, and then they had six weeks of substitutes who did not know anything about science, so all they did was read the book and answer the questions. And on the SAME chapter over and over for six weeks. So when I took the class, they were not the happiest and most cooperative students, but they've gradually come around when they realized that I was not going to go away and that I was going to provide more interesting and appropriate instruction. My high point today was when most of my little group of gang-bangers second period actually handed in two assignments.

Pooka's keys locked in the car story reminds me of what happened to me once.

I had driven to Salt Lake City to mail a letter at the main post office so it would be sure to be delivered in Chicago the next day. (Yeah, we used to have mail service like that.) When I got back to my VW, I had locked the keys in the car. It was about 10:00 at night, so I went to a nearby bar, got a coat hanger, and called the police. I told them I would be breaking into myy own car in front of the post office and please not to arret me.

So, I was struggling with the coat hanger, when three tough looking teenage hooligans came walking by.

"This is our neighborhood," growled the one.

"No," I said, "this is MY car, and I locked the keys in it."

"Having a little trouble?" said another. "Gimme that coat hanger."

    I gave it to him.

    "Now, turn around."

    I did.

    "OK."

I turned back, and the car door was open.

"How did you do that?" I asked.

"Professional secret," he bragged, and they strutted off down the street.

Yesterday was lousy... I got a couple of phonecalls with some not so great news. Hopefully today will be much better. Hope all of you have a great day!

My days been really good, went to see the new premises for the company and they were gorgeous! The manager says we can be in for next week.

Had a bit of a funny turn tho. Was running around, dropping stuff off and picking stuff up and went all dizzy and sick feeling, nearly passed out right there in the shopping center! Only got my BA 6 days ago so am just trying to do too much too soon as usual. Slowing it down a bit now, no sense i killing myself before I've even got my stitches out.
