Default Does stress = irregular periods ?

I'm almost 2 weeks over due for my period..I'm freaking out over it (no chance of being preggers) I've been on constant PMS for about 3 weeks now and I'm at all time high when it comes to my stress level.
What's funny is I had 2 periods 2 weeks apart, 1 @ the end of Dec and another Jan 8th.. Anyone got any ideas ?? Has this ever happened to anyone else ?? I'm never late and I only had a period twice in one month years ago and that was due to a massive change in my workout..

Yes, stress can delay or "mess" up your cycle. Try to calm down as much as possible and it will come. Just be prepared!

Thanks ladies ! Yeah, it'll probably come on heavy at the most unexpected time.
I'll try to calm down but, my body hurts like HELL from the PMS symptoms and my trusty remedies aren't working ! Which makes sleeping nearly impossible.

you may be having anovulatory (no ovulation) bleeding from the stress. it can be more random than what you're used to in terms of cycle. which would explain why you got 2 'periods' (bleeding from endometrial buildup or from estrogen levels not quite hitting the ovulatory peak) 2 weeks apart and now are in the middle of a delayed cycle.

i don't know what you normally do to combat stress, but i find prayer and sleeping a bit later in the mornings help a lot.

Yes, stress most definitely plays a role in your menstrual cycle. I've started my period either WAY early and/or WAY late on many occasions, and it was always due to significant events that were occurring in my life at the time.

Took the words right outta my fingers.

I agree sounds like an anovulatory cycle to me which can be caused by stress. Stress doesn't cause a loss of a period it delays ovulation which in return can delay a period.

Again this is why it appears that you had 2 periods when in fact it was really anovulatory bleeding (shedding of the endometrial lining) which varies in schedule and flow and thereforusually mistaken for a menstrual period.

Hopefully your problem has resolved itself by now, but in case it hasn't...a couple of beers or a strong drink usually starts mine the next day. Not sure why...maybe it is stress related and that calms me down, but I know a lot of girls that this works for.

Wow...I'm in exactly the same place. I had some spotting last month -- thought my period was starting waaaaay early, but it stopped. Now I'm two weeks late. I use birth control, but have taken two home pregnancy tests anyway, just to be sure. They were negative, so I'm 99.98% sure it's not that.

I did start working out intensely at the beginning of February. Also intensely stressed out about jobs and money and life in general, so maybe that's it. Like you, I've been experiencing what feels like non-stop PMS for weeks...cramping and irritability, mostly.

If stress is causing this, it's like a viscious cycle, though, because the symptoms are definitely not making me anything but more stressed out.
