Looking for dancer & customer input here:
Several clubs have long had "gimmicks"- Either merchandise giveaway dances, or 2fers preceded by a dancer parade on stage, with DJ hopefully getting names correct, and parade not too much of a blur.
Which club & how long ago was first encounter of this phenomena, and do you favor/look forward to it, or do you regard it as a distracting "pita"?
Myself, earliest merchandise gimmick memory was Pure Platinum, Ft. Lauderdale, late 80's, where they had T-shirts, and, later on logo tumbler glasses (one of which I still have). For 2fers, Deja Vu club mid 90's. IMO, the cons outweigh the pros. I could care less about another T-shirt, reject DVD (though free pass or Showgirls mag was nice), or other silly merchandise. As for 2 fers, they're often 2 clipped dances, plus empty stage time sucks if I'm just settling in. I do think dancer parades are neat, just to be able to see who's who, provided intros aren't too rushed. Some clubs just have all dancers parade on stage with no intros, its nicewhen intros are done.
Mainly, I'd just rather have good, consistent laps without gimmicks coming along to interrupt the flow of things.

when intros are done.
