I'm going to do it. At 31 years old and having been back dancing for about 2 months after about a 4 year break, I'm going to buy a flat iron and try out a straight style.
A lot of the girls at my club keep asking why I don't try to straighten my hair in order to try something different. It is currently in its natural state - dark brown, curly, just about down to my butt, and very thick.
The only experience I've had with straightening was back in 1994 for my high school prom. It was done at a salon with a hair dryer and brush(es). The stylist took about 45 minutes to do it and I could smell my hair burning. That right there didn't sit well with me. I liked how it looked, but then a few hours later it was curling again. It's taken me this long to try it again.
Last weekend one of the girls showed me how quick it was to get a small bit of my hair straight with her straightening iron. I asked how much it had cost her and she said $40. I stopped into a salon store in the mall recently and asked the lady about straightening irons. She suggested something with ceramic plates, and a high-quality for my thick hair. The irons she showed me were $89.95 plus tax, more than double the $40 I was expecting. I stopped into bed bath & Beyond today and found some irons there as well. I think every single one I saw boasted ceramic plates. Some were $40 and others were $69.
Should I go with a professional quality one? Does it matter? What price range should I go with? Any particular brands or models anyone can recommend to me would be great. I feel very hair-stupid right now..![]()
