    Default Eeeep! We have roaches

    The BIG flying ones. WTF?

We're clean. Like really clean. These fuckers are huge. It's freaking me the fuck out!

How do we get rid of them? I don't want to call an exterminator because we have animals and I don't want the poison in our home.

    I fucking HATE roaches

BEER. I'm not kidding. Put beer in dishes around the house. They fucking love the stuff, but drown in it. Boric acid is supposed to work well too.

Shut up! That just made me laugh. Beer never lasts long around here but I'll do it. It won't attract more will it?

What's messed up is they're coming from above the stove. 2 fell out of the cabinet up there tonight when we were cooking. THANK A HIGHER POWER that they didn't fall on to our korean bbq cuz I woulda been p-i-s-s-e-d!

You have flying roaches in Los Angeles?! Where the fuck are you? I had no idea those things existed in L.A. County. I'm so glad I never came across one because I would have freaked right the hell out.

If you're in an apartment, the only way you can get rid of them is to convince the landlord to have the whole building sprayed in a single day. If you manage to get them out of your apartment, they'll just go to another apartment, and then when that apartment sprays they'll move right back into yours.

I would be a wreck if I were you right now, you poor thing. My cockroach phobia is way beyond all reason. Do you have somewhere safe to stay until the landlord sprays?

Hmmm, well you see... I'm kind of here with a dog illegally. And we could get evicted (we're trying to find another apartment) if the landlord finds out. I'll talk to the man about calling his landlord though. We'll see...

We're in West LA.. not far from the beverly center.

I HATE them. I've only stumbled upon them two times and then my bf swoops in and saves me from freaking out. He's going to clean out the cabinet the two fell from tonight. I tried to offer and help but I couldn't even form the words.... he saw me struggling with it and said not to worry about it, haha.

I can't believe you've got flying roaches in West L.A. That's amazing to me. I have the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it now. Anyway, the landlord can't come in (or send an exterminator in) without giving you 24 hours' notice. So talk to the landlord about spraying, and when the exterminator will be coming in, then take your dog somewhere else. It's probably just a precaution anyway since the exterminator isn't likely to say anything about your dog to the landlord unless they happen to be friends or something.

M says the landlord is shitty and probably won't exterminate every body. I'm going to look for animal friendly methods and M said he'll put some beer out for the fuckers.

I can't believe we have them either. We're kind of in the ghetto and it's dirty around here.

Please pray for our sanity whilst my man cleans out that cabinet above the stove and tries to get the mf'ers out of here.

He's been around 300 million years more than you. Good luck.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Beer will attract more of them, no question. There is nothing you can do to get rid of them except spray the entire building - and even then, they might come back. If you're looking to move anyway, now is the time to just do it.

Wanna come over and take some more home with you??

Um.. so it's worse than we thought. It looks like we have mice too. And the area he's trying to clean up (grease buildup from the stove) has nails sticking up every where so it's kind of tough to clean.

Yeah.... hmmm. I think I might throw up.

What if you put the roach motels outside of the beer? So to get to the beer they have to stop at the hotel. Roaches ehhh! How unsettling to sleep at night.

Are you finding what looks like mouse droppings in the cupboards? If that's all, it's probably the roaches... Their stuff is HUGE!

hahah... they stop for a beer on their way home. *sigh*

Supposedly they hate the sent of bay leaves so the mister is putting those out right now.

We have this horribly sticky grease problem on the venthood (I swear most men don't know how to clean properly).... how do we get that off? I used to clean mine weekly so I never had that issue but whatever.

Fiona... really? I didn't look at them. BF said they're poops. I never thought I'd be happy to hear it could just be roach poop!

ETA: we're at 5 for the night. Five large cockaroaches. SnakeBabe.... feel free to come by ANY time :-)

Get the Combat brand gel/putty stuff (you can get it at the grocery store - it looks like a mini caulking gun). Put that around the area where you're seeing the roaches, as well as under the sinks, behind the stove - pretty much dab that stuff all over the place in the kitchen & bathroom. Exterminators use a stronger version of that stuff, but it's still really good. (I think the warning label says to keep pets from eating it, so you might want to put it only on high places or where your dog can't get near it, but I haven't bought any in a long time, so just see what the warning is.)

My ex used to be an exterminator & he says that the Combat gel is the BEST thing you could buy. It's a bait/poison. So unfortunately you will see more roaches for the first 3-7 days, but after that you'll only find dead ones.

The roaches probably showed up initially because one of your neighbors used Raid. Raid spray doesn't kill roaches, it just scares them off temporarily. So they got scared out of one of your neighbors' apartments.

Don't use beer. That will attract more bugs. Most of them will not drown in the beer.

Also, it's probably not comforting, but it's better that the roaches you have are large. The teeny tiny ones seem to multiple quicker & are harder to eliminate.

Make sure you clean up anything dusty, as well as sticky. I don't know if they eat it, or what, but we used to have huge roaches in the laundry room in Pittsburgh. They were always in the lint/dust bunnies. Terrifying.

I have never seen a cockroach. That being said, I don't think I ever want to see one that can fly at me.

    Oh hell no.

I'm a giant wuss when it comes to things like that. Spiders, ladybugs...things that are creepy and icky. *shivers*

I'd rather take a snake or a rat any day. I actually like those.

Oh, man, poor you! Sorry about this, eek. My friend once told me baking soda works, (it burns their feet) but I'm not sure about the flying kind. Good luck.

I didn't even know roaches could fly! I've only seen a few in my apartment, and they're not that big, but they still freak me out. The biggest one I ever saw was in my sink under a bunch of dirty dishes and I swear it was like 12 feet long! Maybe not that big, but I screamed and my bf ran to the kitchen thinking someone had broken into the apt and was murdering me or something. I don't do well with creepy crawlies that I don't plan to see.

I know my phobia doesn't make you feel better, but seriously get an exterminator. We get sprayed monthly and that seems to do the trick. I don't know how bad that is for pets because we don't have any, but do some research online to see if there are any organic bug sprays or something a little healthier.

    LOL!

Miss Taylor, I feel your pain. I live with my sister and her family in a duplex in a bad part of town, or well, in a bad town lol and we have a roach problem. When we first came here and checked out the house, nothing. The whole time we were moving in, nothing. Safe, right? NO! Like, the next day we started spotting the random dime-sized roach and we freaked the fuck out. We refused to unpack anything because we were ready to move the hell back out. Then the first night we tried to sleep there, we saw like, five so me and my sister fled to my mother's house for a few days.

We raised hell with the landlord and finally he bought somebody out with him to do some sort of 'treatment' (although they wouldn't do the obviously infested other side of the duplex) and they gave me a can of roach spray lol. I almost passed out from the fumes from dowsing my room with it but you know what, I haven't seen a roach in my room for months. I recommend some Hot Shot Ant & Roach Killer.

None of us had seen a roach in months, but this last week we've each had sightings....we haven't lived in this place when it's warm outside yet...Oh God will it get worse?!

Miss Taylor, I don't know how you can handle them being as big as they are. You might need a bb gun and some goggles! Good luck.
