    Default my back hurts!!!

I strained a muscle in my back while lifting weights last week. I was in bed for three days before it felt OK to be up and about. I still get sore if I stand or sit up for too long, so I'm being really conscientious about taking lots of breaks to lie down.

If anyone else has experienced a pulled muscle in the back (I'm guessing it was spinalis dorsi or longissimus dorsi, for the anatomy geeks) how long did it take you to heal enough to dance again?

I've been out of work for a week, which is a problem. I can't stay out of work TOO much longer without breaking out the credit cards. On the other hand, I don't want to work too soon and end up delaying healing or developing a chronic problem.

My personal trainer said to take it easy through the weekend. My boyfriend hasn't said anything directly but I know he thinks I'm a big pussy for staying out of work with a pulled muscle. Why do I care what he thinks? Because I live with him, so his opinion is unavoidable.

    Please advise?

I've had a sore back for the past 2 weeks. However, I'm an idiot and keep working out. I don't have anything pulled I don't think though. I've also been out of work, but not because of the back, because of a staph infection I wrote about in another thread. I know what you mean about the credit cards. Luckily I don't have any, but then I have to dip into savings. GRRR.
Best of luck! I've been using dry heat, then hot bath soaks. You could try alternating that with some ice. I babysit for a physical therapist and she said that something can be painful just from swelling. You might have some swelling that ice could help? Just trying to help, but I'm no dr.
    Quick recovery!

My therapist just got back into town and doesn't have a booking until next week. I've been using a foam roll ball and hot baths. Epsom salt? Honestly, nothing helps when its achy, but my mass. therapist recommends icing it instead of heat on it.

I have a standing 1/2 hour maintenance appointment every 6 weeks with an osteopath to fix my various aches, pains, and injuries from hockey. My guy is a chiropracter who branched out into the soft tissue and bone stuff in osteopathy. He never fails to fix my ailments in one shot. Usually strain/counter strain type techniques.

I swear by it. It's an option to consider.

Ice and an anti-inflammatory for the short term. When I pull a muscle I put on those icy/hot patches, take an advil, and go to bed, hoping it hurts less in the morning. If it goes on much longer you really need to see a professional. Someone who does trigger point therapy or strain/counterstrain like hockybobby said, those will deal directly with muscle pain.

See someone though, because you really don't know for sure what happened. I thought I pulled a muscle on the rowing machine but I actually tore a ligament, so I was treating it the wrong way, stretching when I should've been doing the opposite. It actually took seeing many different kinds of therapists before I finally knew what it was. Hopefully rest, ice, and drugs will get rid of your pain soon.

I LOVE osteopathy, btw. I also go once a month to unwind all the twists and turns I've gotten from stripping for years.
