Default Rollerblades plus me equals crashing

Yesterday I bought new pair of rollerblades with the notion that on nice mornings or days I can head off for a nice roll. WRONG! MD is too hilly with too many roads and cars for that shit. I'm from Ohio where I could rollerblade anywhere and not fear the inability to stop or run into a car.
I hit a hill I was not aware of and realized that there was no uphill until AFTER a major intersection. I was going sooo fucking fast and was trying my HARDEST to brake. The sidewalk was a mess and I just knew I was gonna hit the ground. I managed not to hit the concrete on the way down, but I had a decision to make. Hit the ground where there's some grass or run straight into on coming traffic. I chose the ground. It hurt. A lot. I'm thinking that was better than a car traveling at about 45 miles per hour.
I don't know what I was thinking. I was going up hills and thinking that it was such a good work-out. Stupid me, what goes up must come down.
SOOO many cars saw that happen. I got right up and laughed my ass off though. That HAD to be funny to see from their perspective. Needless to say, they're for sale on craigslist now.

    ouch.. glad you're okay though.

I used to be a pro as a kid, last time I tried to do it as an adult, little kids laughed at me.

I love rollerblading. It's a great cross-training workout for hockey. I'm not a freak about it though, what I tend to do is more like stroller-blading haha. I'm blessed with lots of great asphault trails next to water and in parks too.

There was this one time I went to make a quick turn on a path down by lake Ontario. There was a couple coming the other way on their bikes. Before they got to me I pulled a little power turn but lost it and tumbled. The lady came by first and asked if I was ok...of course i sucked it up and said no problem. Then the guy rode by and under his breath and out the side of his mouth he says: "nice dismount". I just howled

Sorry you crashed. It happens, don't quit, just get a helmet and pads.

I love rollerbloading. It does not love me. I've had multiple times I've had to flop sideways onto the grass for lack of a better way to stop.

Funny story... I was 19 and rollerblading around my apartment complex, and an old lady backed out of her parking spot without looking and she backed right into me. She just bumped me, not too hard, but since I was on wheels I went flying. I slid several feet on the torn-up, poorly-maintained pavement and the entire shin of my left leg was instant ground meat.

Two days later, I went to the Playmate 2000 audition (at the time it was my life's ambition to be a Playmate). I had to pose in my underwear with my entire shin (from knee to ankle) looking like scabbed-over hamburger meat. We had little forms to fill out about ourselves, and there was a blank marked "Hobbies." Trying to make the best of the situation, I scribbled, "Rollerblading - see photo."

    I was not called back.

The funny thing is I had purchased pads. Upon getting home, the "kit" had 4 wrist guards, 1 knee pad and 1 elbow pad. That didn't help. The problem is that there is NOWHERE safe here. I just love it, and did super fitness blading at home (trained for ice skating) but there isn't anywhere safe. Even the parks here are REALLY hilly and have too many cars to be concerned.
