    Carpeted Stage

My club is undergoing renovations and has decided to put in a rotating pole on one of our stages. Last night I worked I was being nosy and overlooking the progress -- I noticed they had put down plushy, short-haired carpet instead of the normal hard floor. i've never heard of or seen this before - do any of you girls know what it's like to dance on carpeted floors? In one hand, it's exciting for my knees. On the other hand, wtf is it going to do for a stage show? Is it hard to turn/pivot? etc etc.

Wouldn't that give you carpet burns as well? Ow.

I couldn't even imagine working a carpeted stage. That just...doesn't. seem. right.

The only thing good I can see coming from that is not falling after girls getting on stage with lotion and making the floor slippery. I've busted my ass a few times from slippery stages. It is PLUSHY carpet though? That makes no sense at all. It isn't like the hard carpet that clubs have on their floors with the little designs, right? It is hard as hell to walk on plushy carpet with those shoes, atleast for me. Carpet burn also, ouch.

I would not want to do any floor work on carpet! At least the hard stage gets a good wipe down, a few times a day..I doubt they'll be dragging a vaccum up there..eww, germs!

..are you sure its not just temporary covering to prevent scuffing/damage by the workers.

Carpet actually onstage? That can't be good.. Except, perhaps, for the knees.

Hm. Might be there to discourage floor work, I know a lot of classier clubs don't like it.

I have a carpet in my room at home where my pole is installed. With bare feet it hurts, with shoes i keep catching and tripping up.
You can't be as "glidy" with your moves, and things like turning on one foot are difficult.
Chances are you will have to adapt the way you move on stage.

I worked at a club with textured tiling on the stage floor and is was horrible. No smooth, painless gliding. I can't even begin to think about carpeting.

I don't believe it. That would suck. Do you know how gross that carpet will be? I'm finally getting used to the carpet they put in the lap dance area at my club, it was a bitch to get used to dancing on.

Just one of the ingenious renovation ideas at this club. Oh--by the way, it's the texture of astroturf.

Carpet on the stage floor? Now there is new one for me. Yuck! I agree with Audrey- who the hell thought of that?

Carpeted stages SUCK! The grossest, dirtiest gigs in BC have them, and the Whitehouse in Auckland has them. It's ridculous, I can't even remotely function on a carpeted stage.

yeah, it's more astro-turfy than fluffy but it's still whack as hell. and it's cut very neatly where it meets the edge of the stage which leads me to believe it's there for good - not to protect the floor while the ONE GUY doing the entire renovation works on it. i'm going in tonight and the pole is supposed to be up and rotatin' - i'll be observing from the beer tub and taking notes!!

    on another note: happy caturday!

wouldn't the carpet get worn down pretty fast if girl after girl after girl keeps dancing in the same spot for hours on end each day?

that is just asking for girls to twist their ankles. stripper shoes are WAY to grippy for carpet. in my house where my pole was, it was carpeting, i couldn't pivot at all in shoes, my ankle would immediately roll.

i would say something. like "you do realize that we can twist our ankles on carpet with out shoes?" or something along those lines.

plus eWWW that screams germs and dirt especially after spilled drinks and it's SO trashy looking..kind of a austin powers feel to it i think.

I've worked on carpet-ed stages mainly for pub shows granted not actual strip clubs.

Anyway, carpet .. or any type of surface similar is not good for your knees. It's worse. You will get carpet burn.

I would honestly ask to see if I can take a rug with me on stage if you are allowed to do any floor work to save your knees (plus protect yourself - hygiene).

CRISIS ADVERTED: the asshat put glass over the carpet. i don't get why they put carpet down in the first place, but wtfever.

a lot of the girls are complaining about getting dizzy from the rotating pole. i tried it out after work and i almost barfed. does that go away eventually?

actually, i think that sounds kind of nice....glass over a nice looking carpet. i never got dizzy from a rotating pole but yes, you and the other girls will get used to the pole and be able to work with it. i hate them but in the clubs i've worked at, the girls were able to use it to their advantage.
